Got some guide how to defeat Phalanx?

Vincent Butler can archers and skirmishers do the work? Or should i get mercenary Slingers?

Sorry about the delayed reply, I just now saw this on the thread. Merc slingers are nice because they have more ammo. Archers would work, though I think Balearic/Rhodian slingers have same range. Skirmishers have neither the range nor ammo capacity, so unless you are desperate, don't use skirmishers. From behind, it would have the same effect, but again, range and ammo capacity are the problems there.

You are up to Roman Archers, right? They are better from the front than slingers. Merc slingers have more range than standard slingers, so against somebody who trains slingers (Britain, Carthage, Spain, Egypt, Parthia, I think that is it), they will destroy them and any unarmoured unit. Now Cretan Archers, or once you get Archer Auxilia (after Marius changes, if you are new to the game), would do great, having more range and attack than either Roman Archers or Merc Slingers.

Ludens, are slingers more effective against Armour? I know in EB they are, but I have not had that same experience in Vanilla RTW. I once had a Briton Slinger unit on the walls use all their ammo against I think LC, and may have killed one.

That's my fault, actually: his post was held back by our spamfilter for some reason, and I didn't notice it until a few hours ago. No idea why this happened, but I've asked the tech admin to look into it.

You may be right about that. It's been many years since I played vanilla R:TW, so I was thinking about EB. And IIRC the EB team was convinced that slingers should be effective against armour, so it could well have been one of their changes.
