    Default American 24 Pound Frigates

The things you discover after almost a decade after the game has been released...

    American 24 pounder frigates!

They are a unique-ish unit to the US, after they become part of the campaign (and I think RTI campaign too) and they are the equivalent of a fourth rate but with the speed of a frigate, making them some excellent units at least on paper. Did anyone play with them, did you try them out in battle?

More like a 5th rate aren't they? They work best if it is the only type you are using. Not a line type ship. Use them rather in packs to isolate and destroy enemies knocked out of the line.

Actually they're a combination between a fourth rate, a fifth rate and a third rate, it's quite an interesting mix. It's better than a fifth and a fourth but not as strong as a third, and it's still a frigate with 24 pounder guns.

Not a carronade, but the mix is really nice at least on paper.
