Poorly phrased perhaps. She was speaking in context of media mis-focus/not having the whole story. Wasn't the "let 'em eat cake" quote Showtime makes it out to be.
Oligarch? Certainly she came from some wealth and married into old money. Oligarchic elements in the USA don't have quite the sway of the Roman Senatum and the Ordo Equestor though. Starting off with a top tier education and a goodly pile of money does come in handy when building one's career though, gotta admit that.

The why don they eat cake example is probably a fluke, but this was documented. There is something not quite right if you say something like that, the weight must be hard and I can understand that but at a certain point should understand when you simply do not understand things anymore. The USA is a bit different from the Netherlands, nobody takes any interest in private lives, maybe better, maybe not. But that remark sounds kinda off
