Thread: Shogun heirs troop system in MTW?

  1. #1

Default Shogun heirs troop system in MTW?

Really like Shogun system, i think it's far more natural and balanced (for MTW too). So, answer is - is there a way to run this system in MTW? i tried many options in stratpos, but did not achieve anything.
    All i found is
    1) Pope not heirs, just one king squad.
    2) Rebels have no king

Nothing to be done. In MTW 'royals' always come with their respective bodyguard unit, so they won't ever do the shoggy thing of giving you a prince in a bunch of peasants/ashigaru. The most leeway you can get is being creative with what units you make into bodyguards for each faction, but even so all princes/kings for that faction will be in that unit type.

macsen rufus, peasanth/ashi is not a disadvantage STW system, this is an advantage. Because the power of princes reflects the power of their principalities. If player hires peasants/ashi - it's his choice. For MTW AI can be customized for better troops. And these troops will be worth their money, no matter what they are.
But no matter how I set up MTW bodyguards, it wont fix this system. It's just brearks economic and battle balance, especially for small principalities.
Anyway, thanks for answer and clarification.

    Hi,
@macsen rufus: <"The most leeway you can get is being creative with what units you make into bodyguards for each faction">

How is that done? I'm fiddling around with Vanilla VI early, got so far to make the Danish Pagans, now I'd like to change their royal line from "Royal Knights" to "DarkAge Royal Knights". Got no idea, where it is stored, which units are the royal family. Could you please give me a helpful hand ;-)
    Greetings, duncan1

If you use Gnome you'll see a column for bodyguards, simply enter the faction name in that column, and remove it from the existing entry (ie move it from Royal Knights to DA Royal Knights)

Just one more thought for you... If your modded campaign has era changes, you need to be aware if your faction has different BG units in each era. IIRC if you are using units which are not the original ones with 'royal' in the name you might get unusual effects at era changeover. I think, you'll need to make sure your 'early' BG unit is higher up in the file than the the 'high' and 'late' BG units. I can't remember all the details now, but if you do get weird effects, check that, and era availability.

    Hi @macsen rufus,

I deleted the Danish from early/high/late Royal Knights and set the DarkAgers ;-) to "ALL_PERIODS" - should work, I think ;-)
