I'm very happy because I prefer I over II. I hope they're gonna remaster Barbarian Invasion.
Also don't they dare touching the old good Egyptians and turn them to Ptolemeans.

So, what are the new playable factions at last?
edyzmedieval 21:28 03-25-2021
Apparently... no new playable ones. It's just the standard ones from the original game but now unlocked from day 1.

Oh, it's still cool then.
I want to play legit, game supported Slavs.
ps. Do you know if we're supposed to be able to customize our game tracklist more easily?
Ibn-Khaldun 00:23 03-26-2021
When I saw that on youtube I couldn't believe it's real. Have really good memories of the original. Probably one of my favourite games.
PS. Just realized that I haven't been on the forums for 6 years. Time flies...

Units and battle map look cool. Controls, gameplay and balance seem much better now.
I hate UI and campaign map graphics. It looks like some random browser game to be honest.

Good to see you back here.
Hope you all enjoy the new RTW version!

No more armies of clones. Supposedly there are 4 faces per squad now. I also like that the further south the more mixed race nations are.
I hope Germans and Britons will not have black people in their lines though. It would piss me off.
edyzmedieval 12:53 03-26-2021
Do we get Alexander on top of this all as well?

Yes. All three campaigns of Rome Total War will be available.
No info about Alexander playable factions though.

Since this is on the same old engine I wonder how easy it would be to mod the game? Is it going to be as easy as it was with the original? Also, is it possible to transfer old mods(with changes ofc) to this one?

This is something to be seen and discussed once the game is out - I expect moddability, since it's the same game code, but I don't think that many mods will convert over to the remastered version.
Hmm.
Honestly I only really care about this if someone puts out RTR &/or EB versions updated to this.
I played barely any of stock Rome1 & was heavily disappointed before finding & playing early iterations of RTR.
If it was Shogun1 with 4K 2D stuff & campaign plus modernised 3D engine for the battles (pretty much just load in the terrain to Shogun2 engine) or Medieval1 I'd be the happiest TW fan in the world around now.

Yup. It would be remake rather than remaster though. I'm not sure if there is sense to do that. Has Medieval 1 some original features the sequels don't have?
edyzmedieval 22:07 03-28-2021
I'm a bit unsure over this - remastering STW and MTW would essentially make them 3D games, and since they are 2D, do we want that?
I do wish for some bugfixes for MTW, all I want.
BarkhornXX13 18:01 03-30-2021
Came back to check this out. Will no doubt buy as it's half price on Steam for owners of the original.
Hooahguy 01:36 03-31-2021
Pretty excited about this, as Rome 1 was my all-time favorite game. I just hope mods such as EB are willing and able to port into this new version...

Only if you own the Steam version.

Watching some of the Content Creator preview vids I'm actually feeling pretty confident that mods should be portable with minimal changes.
Its looking like most of the changes are GUI/control, updating what the game does with existing files/stats etc.
If I can just install RTR6 or someone does a port quickly I'm all over this.
The GUI/control improvements would make RTR6 incredible.
But not until thats actually confirmed, I have no interest at all in playing otherwise stock R1TW.

Most remasters like Starcraft1 remaster just fix the 2D engine to handle modern resolutions & put in new HD textures/sprites, I'm proposing that for the main menus/Campaign map & it could be done for the battles (which are 3D terrain but with 2D sprites rather than 3D models) but I think it could be a better outcome loading in to Shogun2 battle engine & existing 3D assets for the battles.

Oh yes it does.
With the original Risk-style Shogun1 map you move your pieces (armies/agents) around between Provinces & set build orders but they don't actually happen until you hit End turn.
Then the AI gets to see your turn & respond to it before applying the moves 'simultaneously'.
So you get proper AI retreats/reinforcement/counter-attacks and when the enemy has for example reinforced a province you attacked you get the option to safely retreat your army intact to the original province before battle (unless you lost the original province from a counter-attack).
When heavily attacked you can choose to fight, retreat from the province (caveat above included) or retreat to the castle (if one is present & there are caveats that make this often a bad choice).
There tends to be a cycle of force build-up at the borders, a big battle & then whoever won advances several provinces (depleting as they leave stabilising garrisons unless able to bring in enough reinforcements) while the loser falls back, preserving & concentrating forces while bringing up reinforcements until balance is restored and a new build-up begins.
Medieval1 takes that simple drag & drop Risk-style interface with complex strategic implications & maxes it out in province-count, map area and extra Medieval campaign feature goodness.

Unfortunately it seems like there is
no plan to port EB over, which is a huge shame (especially since the mechanics in EB2 arent so great, like not having the testudo formation), but I am sure that another historically focused mod will be developed for the remastered version which I will eagerly play.
Edit: seems like the
Rome Total Realism team will be working on a port which is great news.

Don't know whether it is possible anymore, but it used to be possible to register the CD version of RTW in Steam. Same with the DVD version of M2TW.
Ibn-Khaldun 19:31 04-01-2021
There was a QA session on the official TW discord and this video kind of summarizes what was talked there.

A lot of good stuff!
Hardcoded limits to factions and regions are going to be lifted.
Most improvements/new stuff Remastered is adding can be toggled off in the settings.
They have worked on AI and tried to improve it!
Although co-op campaigns are not in the game they are thinking about it cause a lot of people have asked it.
Scholae Palatinae 17:11 04-02-2021
Why everyone bother about Europa Barbarorum? Can't you enjoy original game (which is better imho)?
I personally hate EB because it cuts most original units (including Romans in Lorica Segmentata and Greeks in Corinthian helm - really?) adds over 10 units of the same role per faction and is pseudo-historical accurate. Authors of the mod are declining the Celts hurling cut off heads at enemies, germanic women encouraging their men to fight harder, combat assassing etc. calling it "Fantasy units".
Well no, they are not fantasy at all. Apparently the authors are just more historical than actual history.
Ibn-Khaldun 19:35 04-02-2021
I have to say that this RTW Remastered announcement have made me nostalgic about the old pbm games that were ran in Throne Room. I wish it would be possible to get some people together and try a game once Remastered is released. Too bad Throne Room is ghost town these days

I was never a fan of normal RTW, way too many arcade units - mods were spectacular, I loved the creativity and the options presented.

Who was really?? Flaming pigs? Head hurlers? WTF??
But it did spawn many an excellent mod. I still play SPQR today.
