Exciting! I would love to see something around the Viking Age or maybe the Napoleonic Wars both have rich, dynamic setting for the Total War formula. Honestly, though, I wouldn't even be opposed to something new, like an old civilization (Egypt or Mesopotamia or whatever) or even the Mongol Empire. As for what I’d like to see, I’d love diplomacy systems that are deeper and unit morale that could in fact really make battles more intense! What are you hoping for?

I love your idea about deeper diplomacy and morale—it would really change how battles play out if soldiers could actually break or hold under pressure, you know? It would make those intense moments feel even more real

That’s an awesome take! The Viking Age would be amazing with its unique combat style, legendary leaders, and intense naval battles. Plus, the sheer number of smaller kingdoms and clans would make for really intriguing diplomacy and alliance-building, which could bring a whole new layer of strategy.

The Napoleonic Wars would also be fantastic, especially with the era's tactical artillery, formations, and massive-scale battles. It could really showcase the potential of morale mechanics, with how units might break or rally in response to cannon fire or cavalry charges.

Personally, I’d also be thrilled to see something around ancient civilizations, like the Egyptian or Mesopotamian empires. Each of these civilizations had unique military styles and cultural complexities that could translate into compelling gameplay. And the Mongol Empire could introduce a new level of challenge with its nomadic warfare and vast, open-world map style.

For features, I totally agree with you on diplomacy! A deeper, more nuanced diplomacy system could add so much to the campaign experience. Imagine being able to manage alliances, trade routes, or influence rival factions to sow distrust within their ranks. Improved morale dynamics would be incredible, too—seeing an army's resolve waver or holding a defensive line could add a lot of immersion to each battle. I’d also love to see more focus on character-driven decisions, where faction leaders or generals have a direct impact on the battlefield.

What else are you hoping for in terms of gameplay mechanics?

I'd love to see more focus on terrain and weather effects. Imagine how rain, snow, or fog could drastically change battle tactics, or how rugged terrain could give an underdog army a strategic advantage. And on top of that, a dynamic population system where the happiness or unrest of your people influences everything from morale to recruitment could add some cool internal strategy. Basically, the more variables we can juggle and adapt to, the better
