Hm well take the best armoured units. Gothic sergeants/foot knights and Hospitaller foot knights, all have armour 6.

I've had good results using Pavise units (crossbowmen, etc.) against missles. If you mean, bolt, as in Ballista bolt, I would use the most expendable unit possible to charge at it. 1 Knight of Santiago falling from a Ballista bolt is a lot worse than 1 Fanatic.

I assume you are looking for a missile unit. And you say non pavise...

    What about turco foot?

    Yeah Turco foot in loose

Bolt from Arba has a .3 armor modifier. All unit are pretty much the same facing an Arba bolt. So, the cheapest the better.

My recommandation is kill them before they shoot

i think light cav do best... they donw wait fo the bolt to hit them, they take the fight to the cause of the problem

Yep - horses are best. Manouverability - get them out of range, or charge the stinking dogs before they can get in many kills

I think he means something more like "If I have to put some soldiers infront of loads of missiles and hold them in place which would last longest with least casualties" eg when placing a unit infront of seige engines to draw fire from the crew.

Peasants are about the last thing to get in the way of missiles.
Low armour = easy prey for missiles
Low morale = will run away after a few good volleys

I find Chiv Sergeants pretty good. With their large shields, large numbers, generally large numbers of units floating around and reasonable armour, they can take a lot of volleys even on tight formation with little effect on their ability to hold the ground.

Failing them, whatever has the best shield and is fairly common so their loss is endurable.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

    yup,

I also though chiv sargents were pretty good with large shield. Maybe itallian inf a bit better.
Gothic foot knights seem to resist arrows very well.

the question is, are large shields better (and these units mostly have less body-armour)or heavily armoured troops.

you forgot Muwahid foot, they can withstand far more arrow fire than chivs, since they are smaller and don't have a particular formation, they get less casualties from crossbowmen.

Another tip From the Strat guide.

Archers and crossbow are effected by rain, their bow strings get wet and damp.

Rainy weather doesn't have an effect on Arlebesters coz their strings are made of steel.

Yesterday I attacked the mongols (i was 1500 versus 5000) on a brigde map

I lost 110 men, they lost over 2000killed. Pavise arlebesters Rock on bridge maps, defend and attacks.
