Noticed somthing strange lately. It seems to me that the command rating of random generals (as opposed to the historical ones such the Lion, Normandy, Fitzgilbert, ect.) gets influenced by the number of stars your king has.

Playing as the HRE, I got plenty of general with two or three stars (please do not go dreaming about the myth of the very invisible hand of the military academy, I had not yet built it).

Same happened lately with Danemark ...

Merely a coincidence or does anybody has the same recollection of such an "occurrence" ?

Agreed I also notice the more men I have the more higer star gen's pop up, I hate it I wish they all started at 0 make the game more fun u know. And i wish vices/vurtues only formed after u fought in at least 1 battle with that leader as the head guy

Well, I think the AI needs more high valor generals to balance the game and the player should always start out at 0 or 1. But frustratingly unlike Shogun, you can't tell how many battles you need to "level up" your general. In Shogun, you needed 35 victories to reach level 4 (I believe). That would be impossible in MTW unless you used 1 general all the time), so maybe it wouldn't work. I sure have fun though, playing as the Byzantines with all those 8 star 22 year old heirs
Yours was not at first a criminal nature. At 10 you stole sugar,at 15 you stole money,at 25 you committed arson. At 30,hardened in crime, you became an editor. Worse yet is in store for you. You will be sent to Congress, then to the penitentiary. But,all will be well. You will be hanged.

I've noticed that if I build a Royal Palace and Royal Court in a province, that province will start producing generals with up to 3 stars where it was producing none before.

It seems like elite units usually have leaders with more stars. Leaders of units of Knight that I create always have 1-3 stars.

Elite units. That is the key.

    No, I think it's just a key.

Judging by the fact that none of us have a definite idea, I'm guessing there are many things that go into it.

The other day, I had a unit of Feudal Sergeants that started out with 6 stars. I was playing as England, and had just finished conquering France. My armies totaled about 5000 men.

Another time, my slightly larger Egyptian empire spawned a 6-star unit of Saracen Infantry that came with the virtue "skilled attacker". I made them governor of Constantinople, which gave them an additional 2 stars. However, the unit was given the "often drunk" vice for no apparent reason a few turns later, which lowers command by one.

    Go figure.

I, for one thing, have noticed that your king's heirs will come out with higher stars if you are using your king to fight while those heirs are kids... If the king is busy fighting while the kids grow up they are likely to mature with more stars than the daddy thus improving your blood line.

On another note: playing Polish, I noticed that I started getting units with random stars once I started producing the chivalric variety (sergeants, men-at-arms, knights).

I have noticed in all my games that the most likely units to get high star count after early are spear units, while during early the favored ones are militias. Anyone else has noticed this?
