Friendly fire question

I saw a post here stating that allowing archers to fire into melee results in far less friendly fire losses than allowing arbalesterst to do the same. In my experience, exactly the opposite is true. I constantly allow my pavise arbalesters to fire into melee and I usually get practially no friendly fire losses whereas my losses with archers are pretty bad (even among heavily armored knights). Anyone has had similar observations?

Actually, I was talking about longbows. I didn't mention archers.
