Well, if conditions are right, you can break up multi-unit formations with horse archers.

Horse more so than foot, as the mounted units are better suited to harassment.


As for the disruption of individual units, perhaps something to look forward to in RTW? They could put in all sorts of cool unit dynamics and individual behaviors.... like, say.... horsement trampling infantrymen to death.
