I couldn't find this topic using a search so forgive me if this is dredging up old murk.
In STW I was able to use the mouse pointer to define the shape of a unit. (eg: to make my archers 2 deep rather than 4)
In MTW I can't do this and there is no option on the formation command so how do you guys do it?
There is probably a really simple answer to this dumb question, but I'm beginning to suspect that it's a bug.

well there are a few solutions
    1. The army banner (the shield and 2 swords above the unit selection)
    2. By clicking on the landscape to tell it to go somewhere just hold down the mouse button and it will go to 2lines to 3 lines and so on
    3. at the top will be wedge formation, close or loose formation
    4. the is another way with the numbers on your keyboard but i dont know it

Cheers for the response. I tried those options though and I still can't get my units to change shape.
It's not really a crucial feature, it would just be nice to have a long thin line of archers like I had in STW.

    Thumbs up

Click on a unit in the toolbar at the bottom.

Click on the landscape, hold down the mouse and drag the unit shape where you want it and then release.

If you drag left to right the unit is facing away from you.

If you drag right to left the unit is facing you. Which is very useful when setting up a defence on a hill as you get to see from the enemy point of view.
Our genes maybe in the basement but it does not stop us chosing our point of view from the top.

There is also a group formation option. It is on the top right corner of the screen (on the left of the timer). You must have more than 1 unit selected in order to use this option. The short cut for these formation are numbers 1 - 9 (on the main section of the keyboard). Very handy sometimes.

You can also assign group number. Ctrl + Shift + # (0 - 9) to assign and Ctrl + # to call.
