Thread: I am New to STW
Barkhorn1x 03:23 08-10-2001
Hello all;

Just bought STW this week and am loving it - very engrossing and very addictive - I don't know why I waited so long.

I found this really great site and have already downloaded;
1. The V1.12 patch
2. The "original" manual
3. The Tech Tree
4. The Arrow patch

Can anyone tell me what other 3rd party mods are a must have?

Regards,
Barkhorn.

If you've got the Warlords edition, you shouldn't need the patch because everything out of the box is as up to date as you're going to get it.

3rd party mods .... there are a staggering amount of top fan-designed maps floating around and there are some historical battles available for download - check out http://www.totalwar.org/maps/for more info.

As far as stuff like Total Conversions goes, I'm afraid Shogun isn't exactly mod friendly in that department ( understatement? ), so there aren't any around. Soz about that.

Since you're new, you may not realize that you've bought a game in the very week that an expansion pack was coming out. There is a STW AND STW-Warlord Edition. STW-WE includes the original PATCHED STW plus the Mongol Invasion expansion pack.

If you have bought the original STW, you will need to run the patch. If you have STW-WE you don't need the patch. If you have the original STW and are interested in the Mongol Expansion pack you can purchase it directly from EA for $20.95 including shipping.

Start off by reading the Way of the Daimyo in the game. Next, check out the Strategy forums. Most importantly, have fun.
