Since the patch I can't exit the game normally - It freezes I have to close it via Task-Manager (in WinXP).

If you post your machine specs, then maybe someone will be able to help...
make sure you installed service pack 1 from microsoft (its not shipped with the os yet) and then re-install the game. That should fix it, as it did for me (though I did have my hd reformatted).

Brown Wolf is on to something. I seem to recall there being a little note in the patch README about XP and the Service Pack. If that is not the problem, tell us a little more about your system.

i had this problem but i fixed it after following this advice.
turn hardware mixing (or what ever it is called) OFF in
the sound section.
no more freezing on exit for me now
