Out of curiosity I am interested to know the preferred unit size you start a campaign with and why. I tend to use huge but there is a downside.............longer to build. On the other hand players may use small unit size because of their graphics card.........comments please

It's gotta be huge, there's nothing like carnage on a massive scale to liven up the day.

It`s not the size of the unit that matters, it`s how you use it.

    I use default

I use huge because I have the machine to handle it and I want to see the Epic ... Battles that the box speaks of.

There is a thread started by me which is about the effect of unit size on the strategic campaign part of the game.

Other Thread Name: Effect of Unit Size on difficulty of SP Campaign

Btw Fearless, if you don't like the long build time on the huge setting, just double all unit sizes in
crusaders_unit_prod11.txt and make production time 1, then make unit scaleable=NO . That'll give you huge units with standard production times. Leave the royal knights alone though 'cos 20 unit size is standard for them.
I can e-mail you the file if you're interested.

In MTW default, 100 men for infantry units are enough for me, more than 40 men in a cavalry unit maybe are too many , i don't like too huge cavalry units, they can have problems to maneuver in the battlefield.

I play with the Large size. I would love to play HUGE but already with the Large the computer is trying to lagg a little.
    It's not an old one -> 2 Ghz,512 MB Ram, XP,GeForce3 Ti200 64 mb.
I still think it should handle huge but its not.

I go default because waiting 2 years for a unit just sort of bugs me

I always go for huge, just love it when there are so many little men charging into one other in battles

solypsist and anyone else who's interested, Just uploaded Huge Unit Quickbuild for v1.1 to files section if you're interested. Allows all scaleable units to be built in 1 turn instead of 2.

I like the look of huge units better, though it gets kind of slow on my PIII733, 128 MB RAM ,GeForce 2 , and I dislike the longer training periods. But you just have to love the look of thousands of cavelrymen galloping across the plains .

As for the MP is it enough?? And does a 64k isdn line do?? Or Am I prehistorical?

I've always kept mine at the default unit sizes. It is more important with MTW since my machine nearly gets a hernia playing the game.

Koukos, I'm playing MP with a PII 350 (below min specs) just fine. I haven't tried anything beyond a 1v1 though.

for those having trouble with their supercomputers not being able to run any more than normal i would reccommend a quick trip to the apothecary. you really should be flying on a 2Ghz machine with a 64Meg Graphics card

    Try my advice in here

    http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin....=SF;f=2

    and

also run dxdiag (start, run, typr - dxdiag) go to the sound tab and set hardware acceleration to 'No acceleration'. This is particularly effective if you ever get distorted sound in the game or have an older soundblaster card.

I run a athlon 550 with GF2 and i really am forced to keep in regular unit size. I'm impressed gregoshi's system hansn't given up by now, guess computers were build to last in the olden days

I only played default until I found this thread and noticed that they can actualy be changed, DOH

Now i have tried Large a few times. Didn;t want to do huge cos I did not like the idea of waiting two years for units to build.

    Thanks

I also play default. But only because my computer also greatly complains when I want to squeeze more men on the battlefield...
