    Hey Macedon,

You'll probably find there are a few people, myself included, who have interests in the Second World War, amongst other things.

The only thing is, it just seems a little off topic in the Medieval Total War Entrance Hall.

There are actually Historical forums (the Monastary) and Off Topic forums (the Tavern) that make up part of the Guild. In them you will find already that some people are discussing some of the things you are interested in.

However, to get there from here, you will need to acheive Senior Patron status, and to do that, you need to have participated in or posted a few MTW based discussions in the Entrance Hall.

I'm not trying to tell you what you can and can't post. I'm not a Moderator, just a member like you, offering some advice.

Look forward to seeing you in the other halls soon.

    Welcome to the Org Macedon.

You have an unusual first post to a MTW/STW forum. Do you have a website with these files? You could provide a link for those interested. Due to the nature of our membership policy, the Entrance Hall is pretty much open to any topic.

I am interested in WW2 but not as much as I was growing up. I used to read everything I could, watched every movie that came out, built battleship models and play WW2 wargames (board games). The Germans had the coolest looking armour of the war. In the last five years I've taken a stronger interest in the American Civil War and, thanks to STW/MTW, more interest in ancient warfare.

There is a more recent game about WWII, it's Hearts of Iron, a pure strategy game, very different to total war games. Is something like Europa Universalis 2. I've played Panzer General long time ago, and is one of the best games for beggining to play this genre. HOI seems to be a great game.I think i'll be playing it in a few days.

Another great WWII game to look in to is Sudden Strike and Sudden Strike II from CDV. They are fantastic games, with huge scope and detail and the best realism in a WWII gam I have ever seen. Only draw back to Sudden Strike is that it is very, very difficult for newcomers..........

.and yes I like the German army of WWII as well, and no I am not a Nazi either

    thanks

    The Third Reich

I'm probably showing my age, but I used to play an old Avalon Hill board game called The Third Reich...oh man those were the days. Cardboard chit unit counters, six-sided dice, and a board so big it came in four pieces...the cat just loved it, I had to lock her out of the room to keep her from scattering and/or chewing up all the counters...but I digress.

Played all the Panzer Generals too, my favorite being PGIII Scorched Earth.

Also on the not too distant horizon is an, as of yet, unnamed WWII RTS game made by 1C Maddox Games (the Russian outfit that made the combat flightsim, IL2 Sturmovik). The screenshots I've seen so far look real sweet, and I'm hoping it'll be as good an RTS as IL2 is a flightsim. There's already a forum for this new game over at simHQ.com, check it out.

Yup some pretty heated discussions going on over in the Monastery (forum representing Histroy, Historical Events and Culture.)

    Here's some links for you:

    Churchill - War Criminal?
-As the title suggests, a discussion into whether he was a War Criminal or War Hero.

Jo Stalin - Great or Vile
-Similar to the above topic, only for Stalin. Hero or Criminal?

Most immoral leader of 20th Century
-Not just WWII no, but does include some of those leaders from that era. Forgive the spelling of the topic starter too, English aint his first language

Take a peak fellas. Always welcome new people at the Monastery

Yes, but Sudden Strike II seems a RTS game. I don't like very much games like Age of Empires. I think they're too simple and unrealistic. Are SSII a RTS game???

I was overwhelmed by Allied Assault:red devils over Arnhem. It looks pretty ascetic, but beneath the surface it holds an incredible level of war tactics. You can play both the Allies or Germans...

Sudden Strike is real time, but it is nothing like age of empires, and much more resembles the battle mode of Medieval. The armies are chosen before battle by the computer and all you have to do is win the battle, but believe me, it is NOT simple It has also been thought by many to be one of the most realistic games as well. I have wargems WWII in miniature and so have done quite a lot of research into the troops and equipment and as far as I can tell everything in this game is true to life. It is a fantastic game in my opinion and i would recomend it.

I didn't like PZIII nearly as much as the other two. The second one i really liked, mostly due the improved unit move/fire rules (and the ability of overstrength units in between scenarios, in the original i always had to plan ahead to get all the overstrength units i wanted, it was annoying). But a more accurate title would have been Panzer Commander, as you often seemed to be fighting shorter battles on smaller maps, especially for the invasion of England scenario.

But yeah, that game started me out as a WWII buff. I used to go to the library and just sit for hours in the WWII section reading. Its astonishing how many poor decsions Hitler made.... he should have listened to Rommel and dep;oyed that panzer divison in normandy...... but i digress (and i'm glad it turned out the way it did, with us winning and all)

Does Day of Defeat count? *Grins*

I havent played very many WW2 strategy games I've liked actually, except for the Close Combat games which I find pretty enjoyable. But they still havent got the real feel to them. Too little information .. Its just a series of battles, nothing interesting linking them together. Its always fun when your soldiers get Iron Cross though. Also Il Sturmovik is a quite fun air simulator, still no interesting linking in it though. Sudden Strike I didnt like very much.. still felt like an ordinary RTS (The single time I tried it before uninstalling it)

Cursed be moon and stars above!
    May darkness everlasting old
that waits outside in surges cold
drown Manwë, Varda, and the sun!
May all in hatred be begun,
and all in evil ended be
in the moaning of the endless Sea!
