Thread: Hold Position

I searched for this answer but could not find it.

I line my gunners/arbs up and set them to hold position rather than skirmish. Especially with handgunners who fire fast and create fear those last few volleys point blank can really wreak havoc. also, these units need to be on the front line since they fire with so little arch(at least gunners)

My problem is that the gunners almost always move as the enemy approaches. Is this a valor thing. They don't rout, they just move away as if they were in skirmish. Are they just afraid of the on rushing units(as they should be). It just occured to me, could i position some supporting units around them to make them sfeel safe.

I really just want to get that last volley off The other day i devastated some halberders from the flank with some hand gunners in only 6-7 volleys.

    Hey portent88
I think I may have an answer to your question.
When you put them on hold position it only tells your men to come back to that postion once done fighting. For instance if the enemy moved near your guns while they were in hold postion, they would still skirmish and move away, but after the enemy left the would return to where you told them to hold unless you had clicked somwhere else. To get them off skirmish just put them in close formation and hold postion. Let me know if this works too

They may still be in skirmish. Hold position, when selected, does not take the unit out of skirmish mode. To remove skirmish mode, place them in one of the other modes, such as Engage at Will or Hold Formation.

Kongamato has it right. Hold formation and hold position is the ticket. Don't be afraid to place them right behind your spear units either, they don't seem to cause much friendly fire damage or morale problems for the friendly units in front of them. Arquebus in ranks of three put up a nice volley fire.
