    First, welcome on the boards

To answer your question, CA programmed it this way that it reappears. So either be ready to keep fighting and surpressing the reappearing pope or just conquer the pope after crushing anyone else. The pope also cannot be Modded out of the game unfortunately.

One idea though, leave the pope in a poor province but conquer rome. Make sure nobody kills the pope though while you have Rome under control.

    Hi there Dr.Hasenbein

This has been discussed here before, I think, but I'll gladly answer it again, in short: You know, it isn't possible.

In length, the programmers decided it is vital for the Catholic factions to have a pope around, so you can do fancy crusades and sometimes get extra money from him,
so he will always come back. You could station huge armies in Rome so as to quell his rebellion as soon as it starts,
it can be done easily if you have a lot of money to spend and a relatively easy time beating the game. Just leave a good general there and you can autocalculate the battles.

If you don't want that sort of annoyance, you can leave him alone, or try making him retreat to the papal states or Naples or some other low income province. (That is, if you love Rome so much that you want it for yourself)

Dr.Hasenbein, what's up doc? Welcome Entrance Hall, where questions about how to get rid of the @#$& Pope reappear as often as the Pope does in the game.

My solution was to raze Rome to the ground so it would be years before the Pope could add to his impressive, but poorly led army of knights. I don't know how well it is working as the progress on that campaign can to a screeching halt shortly after I razed it. Of course, the Pope hasn't reappeared since then either.

The more troops you have in Rome the more the Pope will come back with, even though I stationed 3000 troops in Rome the Pope came back with more

I recommend stationsing a sizeable group with some high quality troops and other reserve armies in neighbouring provinces, when the Pope comes back just move the reserves into Rome and beat that Catholic dog into exile

    Hi,Dr. H

    I'm playing Biz.,early.
I'm Orthodox, and his holines is bugging me

He started with a sneak attack on Naples.
Had more than enough troops to handle situation.
I tried numerous attempts at a treaty, all rejected.
Spanish, attacked; upset trade, cost me lots of florins.
Bet you his holiness had something to do with it.
After numerous attempts, finally made peace with Spanish.
    Papacy, another matter.
Took a couple of dead Popes, finally was offered a peace treaty.
The Pope can be a Royal pain
