    System Shock 2.

It had pure atmosphere, nonlinear character development, and above all the best audio ever in a game.

Favourite rts = MTW. (What else comes close)

Favourite FPS - MOH (couldn`t understand the fuss about half life etc, and can relate more to WW2 that shooting aliens et al).

Favourite other: Champ Manager 01/02 (where do all the nights/weekends go - if only I got paid in real life what my talents obviously deserve when leading teams to complete triumph in this game)

    Good question this

Don't have one fav, so here's my list...

    MTW - no explanation needed

Delta Force Land Warrior - HUGE outdoor environments, graphics aren't good but loads of cool weapons and kick a$$ gameplay.

Ghost Recon - graphics, sound, realism, very hard, what's not to like.

Total Annihilation - probably the first RTS game to have HUGE armies, tons of diff unit and building types, 3d models, awsome graphics, best gameplay, etc. One of the most addicting games ever

the intro was exceptionaly well done.

the sounds of the marines firing and dying and cursing was simply insparational.

not to mention the graphics ahhh not great nowdays but back then it was my own rome total war.

It has to be this, MTW. No game before has got me playing into the wee hours of the morning every night for the last 3 or 4 months.

Before then it was Civ 2 and EU 1 but these dont appeal to me anymore.

Warcraft 3 was a mild disapointment to me, even though I've never played any of the others. I still say starcraft was far better.

As for my favorite game..... hmmm.... I'd have to say Rome: Total War Seriously, though, that intro clip and all the screen shots so far make me drool.....

Trust me you'll get over it within a month. The story is good, so are the campaigns, but once you beat that it's the same ol' crap over and over. An RTS game with a food cap of 90???? They needed way more role playing elements to make it good.

Good question. Here are some off the top of my head:

The Seven Cities of Gold (C64) Awesome exploration of the New World

Ultima III (C64) The first RPG/Adventure game I ever finished.

Kennedy Approach (C64) An air traffic controller game that makes you understand why it is such a high pressure job.

Olympic Games (C64) Spent many a night with friends going for the Gold

Elite (C64) Make your fortune in space as a pirate, trader, miner, bounty hunter, etc. Thousands of items across thousands of star systems.

Ports of Call (Amiga) Thanks SeljukSinan for reminding me of this one.

Railroad Tycoon (Amiga) Great railroad empire building. Like having a huge model railroad set.

Starcraft/Brood War (PC) Engrossing story line and different tactics needed for each race. MP was too much of a click-fest fraught with hacks and cheats.

NASCAR Racing 3 (PC) Hey, I love racing.

    STW/MTW (PC) No explanation needed.

If the list is top heavy on C64 games it is only because I had much more time to play games back then.

    Hey Gregoshi

Nice to see, that there are guys here who has been around the gameing block

I recon we´re not that many past 30 years, but it´s extremely funny to read that someone can actually remember Kennedy Approach and Ports of Call.
The last one was a classic of mine, which I had completely forgotten even thougt I was locked up in my room for several weeks fighting to create a surplus on shipping

    Talking

Wow it's such a great feeling talking about those old games. I miss Ports of Call so badly. I loved when I had my shipping empire going. Those runs from Houston to Jebel Dhannah (or however it's written in English). Those runs from Vancouver to Karachi. I was living in Karachi at the time and once I started to play that game, I went down to the ports and man did I see things differently now. Having lived a stone's throw from the Arabian Sea, i could alwasy see those huge freighters sailing off to Vancouver. Gosh that was something. I still remember the sealine at night, silouhettes sailing ghostly into the darkness.

Greg thanks so much for reminding me of ELITE & KENNEDY APPROACH. WOW I loved those games too. ELITE was something else in it's simplicity and depth. The graphics were so basic yet the game still has so much to offer even today a lot of games fail to achieve any level of depth. Nostalgia stikes, and it feels kinda good.

OLYMPIC GAMES God i loved that game too. Thx for the reminder on that too. Spent hours enjoying the fun filled competition with mates. Again simple graphics but totally immersive gameplay.

EDIT: Does anyone remember the game where you were a man exploring Africa and running into jungles, waterfalls, native tribes' villages and cities ? Was it .... gah don't remember the name of that great game.
