I just got the game for Christmas and have been messing around with some custom battles and stuff. I just started a campaign and I saw the Thread in the Main Hall about Cheezy tactics and wondered if there were any rules people set for themselves to prevent things from getting out of hand.

    For instance:

Only allowing yourself to build certain units or types of units in a particular province.

Maybe a campaign where you keep the princesses in the family

Only allowing ports in certain provinces.

Are there any rules that you use to make it more fun\challenging for you?

here's a good byzantium house rule, no cavalry in provinces with income below 500. Also VG cannot be produced north of chernigov or south of nicea.

Hi Wishbone, glad to meet you. I like to limit using using my spies in my own territories only. It is quite easy to send a horde of them 10 - 15 into a neighboring factions province to cause a rebellion. Then after the rebels take over attack them, and avoid out right war with the faction that held that province. Especially when you are a Christian faction stealing a province from a rival Christian faction. You avoid being excomunicated by the Pope very easily this way. There are many ways to handicap yourself.

Not overdoing the trade routes is another good way to limit your game...the AI doesn't trade much, so I try not to either...but it is sooooooo tempting

I'd rather let a thousand guilty men go free than chase one of them

Don't play by other people's rules...as long as the game is good fun you can't be playing wrong.

The only rule that I use is to try to role-play the game, where I play as if nota game, but real-life decisions and scenes were in fron of my eyes. So what that the AI is stupid, maybe I can help my country and their survive

But that means that from time to time my King will not be so nice too.........
