Anyone actually build The later unit ships? I have yet to build any Gun Powdered type ships. Why? Because the AI never seems to build anything bigger then the first two classes.
Just wondering.

i think i built a cog, once,
but it might have been in my dreams, only.
Built many Cogs in my Poland-high-hard-GA campaign. I had the northern half of the map owned by myself; but Spain, Aragones(owning southern France & northern Italy) and Egypt began to attack my caravels. So I built stronger ships to regain edge on the seas.
That was the first time, though. It was around the year 1385. And I've played MANY campaigns(autocalcs a lot), usually focusing on sea dominance; so I guess needing them is rather rare.
War is not about who is right, only about who is left
Having a point of view upon everything is good
Having a view upon every point is better
I saw Lots of Byzantine and Italian War Gallys (i know they are not gunpowder) when i played egyptians. highest class of Ai Ships ive seen. I just blocade ports with 2 Caravels and that tends to quell any enemys hopes of building a navy.

Its quite rare to see the ai build the late era ships..propably only seen it once or twice..
malkuth:
I've built cogs in Wessex. Takes a looong time and much koku (sorry, florins) but once I had the ability I ruled the seas, because, as you stated, AI never matched my tech or numbers.
