Hey I want to post in the Dungeon about the creation of a new faction but I'm not able to.
Can I be bumped up to postable status?

My question is simply whether anyone has succesfully created an entirely new faction. I can overwrite a faction such as the Danish really easily but would like to create a new one.
    Do I use the FN_FREE01?
    or FN_EXTRA?
How do I link graphics to these etc etc.
How is the colour thats displayed on the map at campaign selection decided?

    welcome to the org notjim

don't worry as soon as a mod see your topic they'll cross post it for you..

you'll get bumped to senior soon enough, then you can post about anywhere,, just start here, and communicate with the board, and once they see your ok, and can communicate with some semblance of manners they promote you, usualy take 2 to 4 days, if you don't get promotes email them it's usually an oversight..

    Cheers,

Its a good way to keep the forum clean but a bit annoyning at the start

I've already found a few answers around here but am really surprised at how little mods there are for this game.
I just want to create the Scots or Celts(Scots/Irish) without destroying the rest of the game.

Looking forward to making a few new units too

The FN_FREEnn slots are not really available. ANy mods that have attempted to use them have 2 problems -

    1) the faction colours for these free slots are always black
    2) the game locks or CTDs at the 1st turn

Not usable - therefore you can't link graphics to them.

The colour in the campaign selection is the colour 1st colour associated with the faction (each faction has 2 colours). Unfortunate these factions colours are hard coded in the main MTW exe).

At present most mods have been aimed at either

    - changing the Script files (early.txt etc )
    - creating new units
    - adding new images/shields/flags/icons etc

Some of the better mods (Patrician) use all these techniques but it DOES take a long time to build such a mod.

The biggest problem up to now has been has been the inability to create new maps - ie: we have always had to use the standard MTW campaign map. That problem is now solved and modders can now create different maps, the same size or smaller than the MTW maps and build a new campaign based on a different map (with all that that implies - for different periods/areas etc).

Expect to see some entirely different mods in the near future (English Civil War/LoTR/a USA campaign).

It all sounds very promising. Though I've not even managed to finish a game yet as I keep running out of money
I want to play as a faction that I feel a link to. I tried poland but i think its too difficult for a beginner (never played stw). I was doing Denmark with the thought that i'd take over scotland but as I had, er, financial difficulties ...

I think I need to wait longer and build up a financial base to support all the units/buildings needed for expansion - its a lot closer to civilisation than i would have thought. Which is good

You wouldn't be the first to have financial difficulties. Check the Table of Contents thread for tips.
