Can I run MTW???

well, everything runs fine in the game until i go to battle and when the red bar is almost filled up is says, dderr out of video memory does that mean i cant play the game. the only thing is, sometimes i CAN get battles to work and its a huuge tease(battles work maybe 2 out of 5 times) i have updated my video card. my cpu is not the fastest but shogun total war works fine. its a 733 pentium 64 mb. intel 82810 video card. nothin great, but it should work i think. can you help me get rid of that problem. thankyou

I think your 64 mb might not be good enough to run MTW at its peak settings I think it needs 128mb of ram. is that intel integrated video? I had the same thing on my Dell 4500s and it only has 16mb capability I was able to run MTW limited on low sound and unit settings, you can try and fiddle with the settings uncheck the hardware mixing box and put sound and unit settings to lowest and if you do not have it get the MTW game patch it might help also.

Problem is insufficient memory. Your video is integrated, meaning it shares system memory. So say 32mb is used for graphics in the game. This leaves your PC with only 32mb of free mem, (less actually, since windows always has some taken up). Get some more memory, and you should be ok. (It is extremely cheap now too. Check Pricewatch.com for best prices.)

does anyone know any quicker fixes i can use b-sides buyin more ram. i put on the lowest settings and it still doesnt want to work. my cpu is not a laptop, and i am not really interested in upgrading it because its an HP and i heard that they are impossible to upgrade and i should just get a new cpu. any suggestions? thanks for all the help thus far.

prodigy, in the link I provided, the discussion was about an integrated graphics card very similar (model number) to yours although they were talking about notebook pcs. However, the solution to the problem was to get some drivers from Intel which solved the white/gray block problem. Have you tried that? It might be the quickest cheapest thing to try.

i updated my driver to 6.7 but its not the white splotches that are my problem. the problem is it saying there is not enough video memory. the campaign screen works just fine just the battles do not work. i also read the game compatibility list on the intel website for the intel 82810 chipset and it said that the game was compatible. i still have the same problem dder not enough video memory

Not the answer you are looking for, but I doubt it is gonna run. The game requires 128mb of RAM. This is exclusive of video memory... it requires a 16mb video card on top. Now, the game may run with 64mb of Ram, if it has it's own video card as well, but with integrated video, this is impossible. You said Pentium, so it would be running PC133 memory. To upgrade memory on an HP is no problem (it is upgrading other stuff, like hard drive, that can get to be iffy). Good news is, memory is cheap, and PC133 (ie. the type your machine uses) is DIRT cheap. You can get 128mb of it for $20 (name brand, delivered to your home). You merely pop this in, and you are set. Getting 128 mb would give your video the 32mb that is can have allocated (810 series uses up to 32megs) and the other 160mb would be left for the system. (This would give you a big performance increase besides) Beyond upgrading RAM, I honestly don't think that the game will run. I know you said the campaign map will run, but as you are already below what the developer specifies as required amount of memory, by 1/2, when you go into a battle, your video eats half of what you already have, meaning that you then have 1/4 of what is required. Since the system doesn't have the memory free for the video to use, you get the sinister innsuficient vid memory msg.

I thought I said that also??????????????????????I HAD an intel integrated memory card the very first time I played MTW it played very slow poor framerate erratic mousepointing etc.I know this problem is compounded by the fact you only have 64mb memory THAT IS WHY YOU GET THE ERROR MESSAGE YOU ARE GETTING the Baron is correct unless you upgrade to the 128 minimum required by the game you will continue to have problems .

thanks for the help everyone. i am off to go get a 128 mb upgrade for my cpu. i can just get one at best buy right or do i need to order one off the internet? and if its no prob upgrading processor speed and ram on an hp, should i even get a new computer or should i just continue to upgrade what i have. once again, thanks for all the help thus far

I go for the cheapest solution first.

I don't intend to change my amd800 machine until I've max'ed out the systems ram capability; so far I'm at 512mb of 1500mb

Should mention I went fairly heavy with the vid card though G4 Ti-4400 with 128mb of video

Yes, max out your RAM, try checking your virtual memory setting. Try shutting down inessential programs before you play and shut down your virus scan. As always be sure you have defragged recently.

You can get memory at Best Buy, but they will bend you over on price. They charge ~$50-60 for generic RK Byte mem, and 5-10 more for Kingston or PNY. If you want it now, then you can do that (a PC parts shop may have it for less). If you can wait for 3 or 4 days (delivery time), order it online.
It will be 1/3 the cost, for a better part. Go to Http://www.pricewatch.com Go to System Memory, select PC133 at the bottom. Scroll to the 2nd page. Midway, they have Micron 128mb stick for $20 even. (Americomp inc.)

(This is why onboard graphics are the devils PC component... now with systems coming with up to half a gig of memory, it isn't as important, but back when 64 was the norm and 128 high end, they were *VERY* misleading....)
