    hi all

Would just like to share with all STW fans that Koei (Website) had made a game based on the sengokujidai named Nobunaga no Yabou - Soutenryoku

Take alook at this screenshot of the in-game political map :
    MAP

If you played STW you would probable recognise the icons of major houses (Oida, Mori, Shimazu, Hojo...)

However, for the first time I noticed all the minor houses that were not represented in STW (They were all collectively lumped as ronin) Even the warrior monks are a playable faction (The 2 buddhist swastikas at the top middle of the map) There are 5 campaigns, for the starting year of 1534, 1546, 1560, 1570 and 1582.

STW gave a good simplified overview of Japan during the sengokujidai. Soutenryoku gives the details...like putting Japan under the microscope. I will try playing one of the minor factions and see how it goes. Hopefully I wont be swept away in the first few years

    Will keep you all informed

    Hello and welcome pai.

Thanks for the info on the game. That is one busy map of Japan I read [i]Taiko[/b] a couple of years ago and many minorclans were mentioned in the book. The book also gave me an impression of a Japan much more fragmented than STW. The map of this game seems to match up better with my mental image of Japan as represented by the book.

What platform (PS2, xbox) is the game on? Is it available everywhere or just certain countries (Japan?). Thanks.

It looks similar to other KOEI series. Very interesting.

I wonder if the game will be released for PC in English, since KOEI hasn't had a good enough worldwide market for their PC games.

Hi Gregoshi, refering to the website, soutenryoku is currently available on both PC (Windows98/Me/2000/XP) and PS2. It was released on 7th Feb 2003. I doubt that the English version is available at this time. Koei does translate some of its older games to English. Hopefully this one will get translated. Check out the Official Site for more screenshots.

I do not study Japanese history but I can imagine that the situation during the sengokujidai is messier then the one depicted in STW. A country the size of Japan can have any number of warlords. Its a nice touch that these minor factions are playable, such that you get to experience the feeling of being a small fry in a pond with big fishes like Oda and Hojo

Im currently playing the buddhist faction, just found out that its read honganji. Hard going with just 2 cities but fun Here are screenshots of the Zoomed in map and the battle screen.

There are many cool features, as far as I can make out in 2 hours of testing. For one thing you get to pay another allied faction to launch a joint attack on an enemy. There are also vessel factions. I'm not sure how it works yet..whether you get tribute or anything, but when I asked my vessel to join me for a joint attack they came promptly enough. Now if only I can get powerful enough to make vessels of Oda

At first glance, the battle seems more simplistic, compared to STW. Its in 2D and have a more cartoonish feel. The graphics are attractive enough though.
