Bow to everyone on the board! My first post here.

A question about the walking speed of the units.

The manual says that cavalries walk faster than foot soldiers, but my observations is that if I select all and order them, they walk just as fast as the normal Yari Samurai. And they takes quite a while to change formation.

Monks, acording to the manual, are only supposed to be a little faster than nomal foot soldiers (8 vs 7 on walk, 12 vs 10 on the run). So do No-Dachi and Ashigaru. But it feels that they walk WAY FASTER than the statistics should be.

Now, the naginata. Their walking speed are supposed to be as same as a YS, but we all know they are by far the SLOWEST unit throughout the game. Of course, they tire out pretty fast, but they lug way behind even if everyone is still "fresh".

Pain is weakness leaving the body.

One possibility for the naginata is that they slow down quickly because they tire quickly. For the cavalry, I think you may have the foot troops marching quickly while the cav is just marching. The default speed for foot varies between walk and run, whereas the default speed for cav is walk. So cav usually have a walk speed of 10, which is the same as the foot running speed.

    Edit: Welcome!

There is something flaky about formations, I don't know if it is taisho honor or what. Sometimes they march in perfect order, maintaining position correctly so that the YC behind the NI slogs along at NI speed. At other times they catch up, pass through and get ahead of the unit they are supposed to be following. Of course, if you put faster units on the flanks they scoot on up to their stop points and wait on the rest to catch up.

    Algesan,

That is dependent on whether or not you have grouped your troops. If you have them in a formation you desire and then move them up without first grouping them, they will all advance at their individual speeds.

If on the other hand you have grouped the formation they will then all advance at the rate of the slowest unit in the group.

I warned you, but did you listen? Ohh, no...it's just a harmless little bunny, isn't it?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

One of the fun things to do playing mongols online is to group everyone and have them double time up to their positions. VERY impressive to have so many cavalry suddenly rise up over the hillock!

Obake hit it on the head- group if you want them to be a unit, otherwise, they will go in their own sweet time.
