Thread: How do I retrain the units?

When you click an army, then click on a unit, there's one information about retraining cost. How do I make them retrain? Where is the button for that or do I need to build a drill dojo? Plz tell me.

I don't think you need to build a drill dojo, just drag the unit that needs training from your window at the bottom to the train order in the training window.

In other words, click on your army that has units that need retraining, then click on the train units icon in the lower left cprner, where you get to produce more units, then drag the unit that needs to be trained into a slot in that train units window.

What this does is that, if there are soldiers that have died in that unit, retrain units replaces those missing soldiers and gives the whole unit any weapon, discipline, honor or armor upgrades thta you have built in that province to that point.

    Hope this helps.

You don't need a drill dojo. I haven't built one yet so not sure what effects it would have. A "bonus" to rallying doesn't seem too important to me right now as units seem to rally if you can cover them from pursuit, otherwise they keep running.

You do pay for the retraining, so watch the costs when you right click the unit icon on the bottom. It may not be worthwhile for some units, but worth it for others. There is not much point in retraining a unit for a couple of levels of armor/weapons when for the same cost you can build a new one with the bonuses.

Wow! I had no idea you could retrain units! By the way, in my opinion, drill dojos are worth the extra koku!

This is how you use the drill dojo:

    (Taught to me by ZenBlade-sama)

The unit you want to retrain has to be produceable in that province, and there has to be a drill dojo. Now, put that unit in the province's castle. Bring up the train menu. Drag the unit from the bottom of the screen into the training queue. It will pop out the next turn with full unit strength and any available armor/morale/weapon upgrades available in that province.

Once again, you do NOT need a drill dojo to retrain units. Drill dojos give your units improved "discipline" which ostensibly helps them not to rout as often or either to rally more often.

Another useful feature is the abilty to add upgrades to units
For example, an arquebusier trained in tosa will recieve a +1 honor bonus. You can then dedicate 1 province to armour, one to morale and 1 to weapons and send this units to each in turn to be `upgraded` so at the end u have a unit with 3 swords and 3 armour and 3 moral bonus.
This is extremely useful as shimazu when u have that legendary sword dojo in satsuma giving hon 3 dachi and kensais because their is no iron sands now these units can still receive an armour bonus
Note. If a unit u wish to be upgrader, however, has less than full strength, ie 60 men, then u MUST have the facility to produce them in that region but then that would negate the honor bonuses and such recieved from the original dojo that created the units

Hrm. Do these upgrades apply to the survivors, or just the replacements?

    neither
    thats not what i mean
for a unit of less than 60 men to be retrained back to full strength the retraining province MUST be able to actually build one of these units
what i mean is that if u create a unit of 60 men you can then send it to another province to be retrained (despite being at full strength) and it will receive any weapon armour and morale bonuses from that provinces buildings
what this means is that you can specialize provinces without loseing out elsewhere
for example as Shimazu builing dachi in satsuma for its hon bonus means they wont get any armour, however, send them to ngato to be retrained and all 60 men will receive armouir from the armory you have built there
