Thread: Display Issues on the Battle Map

    Hi all,
I've been playing Shogun and MI since they came out. I stopped for a few months, but I just convinced a friend to buy a discounted copy and hearing his stories, I have to play again.

Problem is, now when I go into the battle mode I get jagged, discolored (grayish) zones along the edges of the screen and varrious areas on the map (bushes, trees etc) are grayed out. If I move the camera near the gray spot, I can see the bush or tree when I'm right on top of it, but the jagged screen edges never go away.

It is weird because I don't think I have changed anything since it worked. My video card is a 3dfx Voodoo3 with 16meg. I am running Windows XP now. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Welcome randwaldron

Just wondering if you have the latest drivers installed for your video card.
Also, try turning down the screen resolution in the options menu.
Please be sure to check out the Apothecary, you should find some answers there.

    Welcome randwaldron Fellow Voodoo3 brother

You have XP, but what version of DirectX do you have? I'm running Win98 with no graphics problems.

First thing to do would be to search the Apothecary and Sword Dojo forums for STW AND XP, Shogun AND XP or some other combination. It may be a WinXP issue since we know STW ran with the Voodoo3 cards (though with black rain in some instances ). I'd do it but I'm too tired at the moment.

If that doesn't yield anything, then you may want to try this: go to www.voodoofiles.com. This link should take you to the 3rd party Voodoo drivers - the only current drivers available since 3dfx went belly up a few years ago. If you sort the driver list by downloads (click on column header), there are a few Voodoo 3/WinXP drivers listed. You could try installing one of those drivers and see if it fixes your problem. I downloaded one of these for Win98 (Xgamer drivers) and it did seem to make a difference for MTW.

Good luck and post back to let us know how it is going.

Thanks for the nice welcome guys
Um... lets see... I went to the Voodoofiles.com site. The first driver I downloaded crashed my PC. I'm trying another one now. I browsed the Apothecary, but I did not find anything, I'll try a search this time, good idea. I can't post there, could some one ask Erdo-san or someone else if they've heard of such a prob.?

In the meantime I'm trying to ignore the crappy battlefields and am playing an Imagawa capaign on hardest level, that was just about the only thing I did not beat before I stopped.

    Thanks

Thanks guys, I fixed it. A friend of mine gave me a 36 meg Matrox card. It solved everything.
    Thanks again.
