I recently tried to keep record of both my English and Turkish royal family in the way of a family tree.
This was because I was confused at the way succession works, but it turned out to be even more confusing the harder I looked at it.
For example, William II died in 1105 and his eldest son William III becam King. Only 2 years previously William (as a prince and heir) was married off to an Italian princess to seal an alliance. In 1106 a message appeaed saying, The wife of your Monarch has given birth to a son. The following year the message, Your Monarch has grown tired waiting for a foreign princess to marry and has wed the daughter of a leading nobleman.
Now am I to assume that the Italian Queen died at some point prior to this, or is he a blatant bigamist?

The annoying thing is that I was really making a big effort to keep track of the lineage of my royal family and it went FUBAR after less than 30 years......? I know it makes me a bit of a sad gimp to do that, but I liked the idea of looking back at all the monarchs over 400 years or so and seeing what each one had achieved once I had won the game. I was even going to put it on the wall of my study out of pride.

I just wish that there was something in game that notified you when a major persona died. In this case it would have been perfectly reasonable to inform me that the Queen had died, and not have me wondering what the feck had happened.

Also, what about when generals die (especially Royal generals)? I normally only find out when I look at my military roster or heirs roster. Or when a 'title icon' appears in a province, signifying that the Duke of so-and-so is no more. After a battle, I don't really feel like clicking on the stack to see who is still alive and working out who died - a simple message would suffice.

Anyhoo, that's my tuppence worth.

I too would like to know when one of my titleholders dies. I have often gomne 50 years or more without ever noticing that Norway needs a new lord. I have so many spies and assasins that I often can't see the title.

I keep track of the royal family tree to help identify which princes are sons and which are brothers of the heir. Even then it gets complicated when both the King and heir are married and you get the “given birth to a son” message, how do you know if it applies to the King or the Prince? I also like to track which faction marries into the royal family, so 20 years or so later I don’t have my heir marry from the same faction (kissing cousins) and have 6-toed offspring.

The only way I have found to ensure that a titled general hasn’t died in battle is to cycle through the Province scroll and make sure the Governor line is occupied by Lord Xyz and not the word None

There is no easy way or none to keep track of the family tree. Personally, I really don't care much about who will get the throne as long as there is one. I usually have a few generations of bad leaders if I stay idle for a long time.

Hi Parmenion. Thanks for joining us. Interesting idea about the family tree. I'd have to agree with some of the comments made here. I'd like to know a little more about certain deaths.

Parmenion, I too like to keep a family tree for information on whose next, etc., and also for the creating history aspect. Too bad the game doesnt include a royal family tree creation aspect itself. sounds like you got a strange situation there. are you sure your king didnt die and it was the new king who married to serving wench? new unmarried kings tend not to wait too long to marry.
