my friend told me that his original Shogun: Total war had a PDF file that contained 'the art of war', but i cant find it in my warlords edition. Is it hidden somewhere, or not there at all? if not, can someone post a link to a website that contains this file? thanks in advance

I have the Warlord Edition of Shogun and I am pretty sure that it is not there. I looked through all the files and don't remember seeing anything on The Art of War. What I did have though was a manual that had alot of History on Fuedal Japan and the different factions and throughout the manual there are quotes from The Art of War as well as from Japanese philosophers.

Ok having dug out my copy of shougun and MI, I can confirm that both contain a file (html or pdf) called 'The way of the Daimyo'. This is essentially a copy of the official manual that came with the games. While it contains quotations from the art of war, I can't find a document called the art of war on any of the 3 disks. I assume your friend confused these two, unless someone cares to point out my error. If you want to find the document on your warlord edition, I would guess it is on \loc\eng\wotd.pdf.

Certainly would have been nice to have got a copy of the book though. I might add though that typing 'the art of war' into any popular search engine would most probably bring up a copy of said document. Although I am unsure as to the legality even though copyright surely no longer applies, but perhaps SUN TZU will come back and haunt you

IIR, The Art of War by Sun Tzu is public domain. I know there were several sites that had the complete document available for your reading pleasure.

The Way of the Daimyo is more than the manual. I don't recall specifics, but it was a worthwhile read.

Try going to sonshi.com. Sonshi has a complete copy of The Art of War online, but more importantly they have it presented in a unique and helpful way. Sonshi has a forum thread dedicated to the discussion, interpretation, and adaptation of each seperate point made by Sun Tzu in his book. It is a wealth of strategic information.

I am pretty sure that the Art of War isn't on the CDs

Here are a few sites that host a copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War:

    http://www.kimsoft.com/polwar.htm
    http://www.sonshi.com/

Edit: yeah. I reccommend Sonshi too. Great info.

I do own the Warlord Edition, there are two .pdf files on the CD, I think (but didn't check lately). One is definitely the Way of the Daimyo which has, as other stated background info and Sun Tzu excerpts in it, the other .pdf file was more focused on the actual game itself, I think.
