Thread: Mamluk Cavalry

Hi all, first time poster so excuse my grammers/spelling.

The reason I play chose egytpian is the Mamluk Cav. I really like them, even more so than the widely known Bedouin Camel Warriors, according to the gameguides:
    Charge (4)Attack (2)Defence (3)Armoured (4)Morale (4) AP

Their cost are not as high as the western knights, and easy to build, they are mobile, have AP, and good morale. They are great for flanking, pursing and killing all kinds of missile troops. I even charge spearmen from behind and rout them quite easily due to the AP power. Of course they are still going to lose to the top knights but they still manage to get some hits. IMO, they are the most versatile cav in the game. I win my egyptian SP based on mamluk cav.

To my surprise, i havn't really see a lot of ppl use in MP. From what i heard in msgboards, most ppl said they use BCW instead of MCav, so i am wondering did i overate them or what? or if i am keen on them how to i fully utilize these guys?

Hi cpgfan, glad you joined us. I haven't played much MP lately, broken hand, but I do like the Mamluk Cav in the SP game. MP plays differently than SP. Most any horsearchers in MP just under perform, they don't kill enough with their arrows and are poor at hth fighting compared to knights or light cav. If you can make them work well in MP then your a step ahead of me.

i use camels and mamluk mix in MP, try using your camels to hold units of enemy knights, then with a flanking run 9with mamluk horse) you should rout your enemies, only because of the combined fear from camels and the flank charge. If used right it can be highly effective, just dont leave your camels alone in a lush land

The reason people like camels more than Mamlukes is simply the cost. Camels cost 125 florins and are easily upgraded and they still perform greatly against cavalry. But that said I think Mamlukes are a great companion for the camels, their AP will help a lot in a fight against other heavy cav.

Yeah Camels are upgrade real cheap indeed. I find Mamluks are not the Elite in MTW that were recruited by everyone including Napoleon himself, thx to their fighting prowess. I use them for variety's sake.

Again like the Janis, these guys suffer from a lack of adequate investigative research prior to game release.
If you remember me from M:TW days add me on Steam, do mention your org name.

Of course, there is no rule stating you have to make the most efficient use of your florin in MP. If we did, everyone's armies would come out looking nearly the same. If you like a unit, use it. Try to make it work as well as you can.

That's the spirit: I keep using the woodsman and clansman if I can only because of the sheer joy that they bring to my heart

    See alro's reply

Funny how we share lots of same approaches to the factions we seem to enjoy both :P
