Well you must have ships in the irish sea or all around the british isles and into the north atlantic. The troops you are moving need to be in a place that has both a port and a sea link to ireland (i.e. an unbroken line of your ships and no ships of an enemy faction you are at war with in between)
    Hope this helps.

If your at war with a neighbouring faction and they have any boats in the same water as yours the the will blockade any troop movements and trade in that area. To solve this either make peace with the faction or destroy the ship. gl

Having dockyards enables you build ships, but to send troops with your fleets you need a port in the province from which they leave.

hi arrowmaker, you need the following. A linked chain of ships from port to port (or where the port will be). So from Wessex, you need a port to launch from & an army in wessex. You also need a ship in the English Channel and in the Irish Sea. No enemy ships can be in these bodies of water either.

(Alternativly just a ship in the irish sea and a port and army in Wales. etc.)

Please not that strategic units such as emissaries do not need ships to move. They need a port in the launching province and a port in the recieving province only. Given this you cannot send a strategic unit to ireland until it has a port which requires someone to take it over first. As such your first move to Ireland is always with an army, although you can see the relative size of the enemy force from your ship in the irish sea.

Hope some of that makes sense

    Wink

Well that worked Its a bit misleading because the sea was green (not blockaded) yet still I had to destroy their ship before I could procede with my invasion.

You will be pleased to hear that I now rule all of the UK, all yes all

The sea lane was green because you were not at war with them until you attacked their ship. Blockaded sea routes refer to trade, not amphibious invasions.

Always have naval superiority. It is a must. have at least 2 ships in every sea zone and attack anyone who gets in your way as soon as you can... you can always sue for peace later if the Pope gets mouthy Besides a quick strike within a couple of years and it will all be over before he even gets the chance to moan.

You have to have a string of ships from a province that has a port to Ireland. You can't move troops from a province without a port.

With the new version of MTW, there is the new feature of holding down the V key to see about statuses of the parts of the oceans/seas. Sometimes the section of the sea will be red when an enemy ship is in the same area. That means that the area is blockaded and is being contested. However, if you are trying to get to Ireland and an English ship is in the same area, you will still be blockaded even if England is neutral.
