I just installed TMI and I am pleased with the new setup. They have several time periods where a player can join in and conquer Japan. I am not interested in the new units and I was wondering if there was a way for me to play Shogun without the new units. TMI has fused the original Shogun and MI together and I don't know how to play the original Shogun with all the new implementations without outrageous units such as kensai or battlefield ninjas. Please help.

You can't play the new era's without having TMI installed - that makes the new units available. If you dont want to use them - dont build them. Also be aware that many ppl are looking at making modd'ed campaigns so it may be possible to create one with limited unit and building ability. I am not one who builds or uses mods so you are well off asking others on specifics.

I heavily dislike the Sword Saint and the battlefield ninja. IMO, they are unrealistic and takes away from the strategic portion of the game. I was wondering whether I can bypass them without having to uninstall the game...
