Ok, I play defensive on SP a lot. ( a nice way to wear down the hordes), and of course I love the hills. And I pre-arrage my army nice and neat before the battle: muskets at the front; pin cushion boys near by, cavalry in reserve, taisho overseeing the battlefield on top of the mountain, feeling invincible, so on and so forth.

However, once in a while, my troop will AUTOMATICALLY march to a new location thus completely break the beautiful army formation. They just keep moving even though my taisho keeps yelling "HALT! Keep both your guns and pants dry and STAY PUT!! you cheap dirty, armorless peasants!".

Imagine having this happen in the heat of the battle. Imagine that 6 units of monks are charging at you all at once and half of your bow men decide to go for a walk (no, they are not routing, they are MARCHING). You would understand why I am so pissed. Why my troops keep shuffling around without my command? Even after I told them to hold formation and hold position?

Does it have anything to do with the fact that I am sqeezing so many men in such a tiny place? (I didn't go as far as to stack one unit on top of another though).

    A: Yes.

I have also encountered this behavior when packing them too tightly. It seems units prefer to get a little "elbow room" if they are too tightly packed. It seems to be more common if they are too tightly packed in front or behind.

It also sort of makes sense from a "real life view." Troops in battle don't always care what the commander says. With battle fast approaching, training, commanders, and orders just don't matter.

Too bad it's not possible to have a Geisha taisho, otherwise things would be a lot easier. Sigh.
