Here it is: the elusive Crescent Defense formation. While it seems exclusive to the AI, I still get a kick out of seeing it, like getting a little easter egg (to misuse the term).

That's hilarius. Tell me how I can get that on my very own 19" PLEASE.
By the way, Soly, (can I call you Soly) do you prefer the widescreen display over the fullscreen. I am undecided.
On the one hand, the widescreen is more dramatic (cinematic). On the othe hand, I can't help but feel that I am squinting just a little.
Reminds me of the Zulu's favorite formation,
the Bull's horns.

i usually use widescreen just to keep my playing-icons/buttons clear of the battlefield. sometimes a unit will be close to a function button, and i risk hitting that button when trying to click on the unit. so this just gets rid of that.
also, i guess i just kinda like the sweeping cinema-esque look a little better too
How did you get your men to line up like that, Soly?

I have had this formation available to me before, when defending a castle against an attack ONLY, and only with missile troops (I've only had it with gunmen and logic says that they would be the most useful in such a formation).
In fact I had 2 unit and they were each covering half of the entrance. They deployed in the crescent formation and could change the size of it by dragging just like normal, but as soon as you clicked one of the formation buttons (close, loose or wedge) they lost the crescent formation and couldn't be put back into it.
But it was very cool while it lasted.
hehe cool formation!

GARCIN: I "dreamt," you say. It was no dream. When I chose the hardest path, I made my choice deliberately. A man is what he wills himself to be.
INEZ: Prove it. Prove it was no dream. It's what one does, and nothing else, that shows the stuff one's made of.
GARCIN: I died too soon. I wasn't allowed time to - to do my deeds.
INEZ: One always dies too soon - or too late. And yet one's whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for the summing up. You are - your life, and nothing else.

Spist's screenshot shows that his unit was YA, but it's in a castle true enough.
the screenshot shows my men, the cav and ashi attacking an enemy unit of archers who are in that formation.
