I have had the same problem. Before it was because the family name was incorrect, now i am careful to check that and it still doesnt work. I have tried to change my name to join a "clan" and have had no luck whatsoever. This really should not be so difficult.
This problem is addressed in the tech forum archives - suggest you look there.
