Is there any way to entice the Dutch to your shores any quicker. I don't like to play campaigns so that I have to win all the provinces as you invariably end up with 2 provinces left to take that both contain 10K+ units which just gets boring. I prefer to play that you have to take 70% of them (or however many). The annoying thing is that by the time I can build muskets, I've won. I never get to use them. I could sit back and wait longer but that's not the point of the game.

I could try 'eliminate all clans to win' but I know I'll just use Geishas when I start getting annoyed about a stubborn General/Heir etc.

Dutch only arrive in 1560 (Portugese 1542) if I remember correctly. If I'm not mistaken you can't change their arrival dates.

You can also get the Mongol Invasion. In the expansion pack you can set victory conditions to be taking 40 provinces (out of 60). Also, you have different campaigns, some starting in 1550 & 1580, where guns are already available. And the expansion also allows fanmade campaigns. You can create your own campaigns with lots of guns, or download other people's custom made campaigns.

Hmm... I'm starting to sound like a marketing manager...

It must be random (beyond 1560), because i played an entire campaign waiting for the dutch and killing the portugese, but the Dutch never arrived! (The campaign ended around 1570). This is just getting annoying, as i hate the priests (always the first thing i ninja)

If I remember correctly, the Dutch arrive in 1560 in winter, but only in Satsuma. After that, every winter they will show up in a different province. The 7 or 8 provinces are fixed. After 7 or 8 years, they will come to Satsuma again and the whole cycle will repeat. Possibly when you were near the end of your campaign, the year was after 1560, but you did not own those provinces where the Dutch land yet. That's why you did not get a visit from the Dutch.

Try to search the forum. I remember reading about the details of Dutch & Portugese arrivals on this forum.

I always find the Dutch slow to turn up after all the crucial battles are over. It cant be helped, as it would spoil the game if they came any earlier, as it wouldn't be historically correct.
