there used to be (in the original STW) text saying routed, victorious, dead,
i assume the other is withdrew?
but i don't know which number corresponds to which 'status'

No, it's the same in MI. The headers for the various columns are dislocated - the "How Soldier Left Battle" header is above the "Friendly Kills" column. The rightmost column (the one which says DEAD, VICTORIOUS or ROUTED) is the "real" How Soldier Left Battle column.
There are several programs out there that make viewing log files considerably easier.
And BTW, just to show off my uber-superior knowledge of all things STW (
), there is no difference between withdrawing and routing.

Presumably because they auto rout in the red zone even when retreating. but what's the fourth possibility then oh uber master, perhaps, never made it to the field at all in hte case of reinforcements

There is no fourth possibility in the sense mentioned in the first post (since those numbers really represent the friendly kill ratio of the unit). But you're right - the fourth possibility really is NOT_DEPLOYED.
