ok, i live and die by my varangian guardsmen (drools)
oh btw 2 (individual) vg's can take out 120 woodsmen easily. But Kathas rock, and they eat catholic MAA for dinner. . But someone didn't mentions PA's or gothic knights, what's with that.
P/S: Lancers SUCK, except in SP.
VARANGUIAN
They are just awfully powerful
I was in a battle against Mongols. A whole army of heavy mongol cavalry, on a bridge map.
One single unit of Varangian was able to mow down more than 300 heavy cavalrymen, starting from one end of the bridge to finish on the other end, making a nice carpet of dead corpse, and losing less than half of their men in the operation, while being peppered by archers.
They are just unstoppable
If violence didn't solve your problem... well, you just haven't been violent enough.
Lancers lancers laaaaaancers, Ra Ra Ra
Mooc Moooooooooooooooc
umm they do suck after they routed your men and chase your men to the edge of the map. (exclude desert game vs camels)Originally Posted by [b
thought I saw a thread somewhere about single line lancers and such?

Any1 thinks that Gothic Foot Knights shouldn't have AP,they're already soo powerfull, why should they have AP?
Plus that they don't have Gallow-like swords,so why the AP?

I just love the Kataphraktoi
Another topic brought back from the dead
Voted Kataphraktoi too. Slow but lethal.
You know what gives me the red-ass? Highland Clansmen weren't included They are far and away my favorite attack units, and I don't even play the English that much. (My roommate, on the other hand, does; and he swears by them)
Having gotten that off my chest, I voted for Gazi Infantry. They're probably about the best "bang for my buck", so to speak. That and the Egyptians are one of my favorite factions. The Kats would be a close second on my list.

Never had a viking unit to brake formation, rout or disobey orders. What can I say, outstanding performance
No; a mace is a stick with a heavy metal weight on the end. Soemtimes they have flanges to increase the local impact. But if you put spikes on instead of flanges, its a morning-star.Originally Posted by [b

Becausae in the period in which they were in sue, knights armous was so good that all almost all knights fought on foot with AP weapons: polearms, estocs and maces.Originally Posted by [b

I think for a real shock unit, as I understand the term, I go for Foot Knights of whatever variety I have. But I thoroughly enjoy CMAA.

I thought a morning star was a spiked ball attached to a stick by a chain?Originally Posted by [b

yep, morning star is a spike ball on chain attached to a stick.
if mace got spikes or flanges, it's still a mace
that medieval warfare site is not accurate...there were -not- 15lb swords in use.
"we know full well that swords were not excessively heavy nor did they weigh 10 or 15 pounds and more."
and "the lengthy catalog of swords from the famed Wallace Collection Museum in London readily lists dozens of fine specimens among which it is difficult to find any weighing in excess of 4 pounds."
from http://www.thearma.org/essays/weights.htm
4 pounds is a lot different than the "as much as 15-20 pounds" from http://www.medieval-warfare.co.uk/
I think I trust ARMA more than medieval-warfare...ARMA actually uses the weapons
I disagree - thats how it was popularised, buit in fact thats a ball-and-chain according to my reading.Originally Posted by [b
