I'm playing the campaign as the English and using the 1453 fix. I now own England, France, the Lowlands and Spain. However, I would like to upgrade my armies.

    So here a few questions.

    1. if every province is upgraded to the max, does every province create a unit of the same quality if they create the same type of unit? E.g. I create Chivalric men at arms, does a unit of this type equal the same quality as an exactly the same unit but build in another province but ignoring the valour that some provinces add?

    2. which provinces create the best chivalric men at arms, chivalric knights and chivalric spear infantry? And which provinces create the best longbow men?

I'm trying to figure out if there is a diffirence between provinces when creating units when they all are upgraded to the max and ignoring valour bonus.

My armies consist of men at arms, heavy spear infantry (the yellow/gold ones), the big knight cavalry (chivalric knights?) and longbow units.

I upgraded so far that I want to get rid of weaker units and build them again but with better quality.

    regards,

Welcome to the Entrance Hall of the Org Jeroen.

I'm not sure what you mean by valour bonuses. You referring to the valour bonus of things like gothic knights produced in Saxony?

Maybe someone else can answer you better than I could.

Yea Gregoshi i think he means the special valour bonus that it states it gives for certain units. I.E. This province specializes in Godzilla units that give a +1 valour. As for the units themselves i believe if 2 different provinces can build the same unit, and have all the same upgrades maxed out, then the unit will be identical. Now there are those units you cant produce except in certain provinces, like Swiss Armored Pikemen. But i think i scratched your question some.

    Naagi answered it.

So, every province builds exactly the same unit if both provinces have identical upgrades. But every province can, or can not, have a valour bonus point that is added to special units.

I guess that for men at arms and heavy spear infantry, there is no province specialised in them.

Oh, and thanks for the welcome.

Actually, a few provinces- sweden for example- have those blacksmith like upgrades you can get. these add attack value (I think&#33

And you can retrain troops in provinces with metalsmithes or valorbonuses to have BOTH the valor bonus and weaponupgrades. And in VI even without the need to assassinate the general (or in other words, you can now retrain units with full strengh from the beginning).
I belive that the valor can't be changed on induviduals that been in battles but on newtrained it can.

And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

    Not sure about others but:

Mercia +1valour Billmen; +2 with Master Spear
Wales +1valour Longbow; +2 with Master Bowyer
    Toulouse +1 valour ChivKnights
Ile de France +1valour Foot ChivKnights
    Ireland +1valour Gallowglass
    Scotland +1valour Highland Clansmen

Outside of province valour bonuses a Master Bowyer/Swordsmith/HorseBreeder will usually give a valour bonus, unless a Master whatever was a requirement of the unit-type.

There is a post here somewhere about provinces with 2 valour bonuses; only one is posted on the map

Frostone's Guide at TotalWar.org Downloads and Faqs has all the provences with the valor bonuses (and a lot of other stuff).

I know that there are some provinces that have Secret Double Valor bonuses.

(certainly in VI, not sure if this also effects normal MTW)

For Instance Syria gives +2 Valor Assassins, Castile +2 Valor Grand Inquisitors. And I did hear that Bulgaria Gives +2 to Janissery Heavy Infantry

there was a thread about it in the main hall sometime back.

You said 1 plus valor to chiv foot knights in ile de france, hop along, but does that just affect when u dismount chiv knights or does it also affect when u dismount royal knights?

Sorry txknight_54 There are no advantages for Royal Knights anywhere either mounted or dismounted.

At the campaign briefing it is stated that the French have above average quality crossbowmen. They also have advantages with chivalric knights, especially those trained in Toulouse. Now, I do know that Toulousian (?) chivalric knights start out with 1 valor more than others, but what other advantages exactly do French knights have over other Catholic knights? Is a French knight inherently superior to other knights, equal facilities assumed?

The Advantage the French have with Knights is the valor bonus they get in Toulouse province... But if anyone else conquers the province they gain that advantage so it is not really exclusive.

Ile De France doesn't give bonuses to Chivalric Foot Knights because they cannot be trained in the game... Just like Feudal Foot Knights, they only appear in some Catholic rebellions.

Of course you could always MOD the game to be able to train them.

I think every faction has a unit they get a special discount on, this can be found in the spreadsheet file containing the unit building requirements. As such, I think the French can train crossbows at a lower price than other factions, and I think this is what the French faction selection text is referring to.
If you like a specific unit and want them to also have to receive a +1 bonus in a certain province, you have the possibility to edit said textfiles (but check or post in the Dungeon first and always make a backup of your files, it's easy to mess up&#33.
For instance, I made Rome famous for Halberdiers and Carpathia for its MenAtArms, also I made Chivalric FootKnights (60 men&#33 trainable in Ile de France, so that this valour bonus now actually means something.

The answer to your first question is yes - but subject to the fact that only some provinces can build metalsmiths when those buildings start to be available (those shown to have iron deposits as a resource).

Longbowmen trained in Wales get a valour bonus and longbowmen trained in a province with metalsmith buildings get improved weapons. Otherwise the base values are the same whatever fully developed province they originate from.
