Well it's (EDIT; NOT) the most important thing but I think most everyone would like to see VCR options in the replay. Any other ideas for improvements?

Some possible improvments;

2/ a sum of kills, some kind of sum up of log file.
3/ split screen and setting up cameras in fixed place or following a specific unit. Being able to jump from one camera to the other..
4/ crowd cheering if in a coliseum
Louis,
I agree, plus you should have the posibility to move back and forward in order to see a specific part of the battle ...
Yes. It should be a big priority. Specially a replay room where you can watch and discuss replays with mates.
There is another thread where this is being discussed...errr where is it now.......

Sorry to disappoint anyone but as far as i understand the replay system it is impossible to incorporate more advanced functions. The problem is that it is not really a replay but a set of commands with which the computer "re-plays" the entire battle. That is why it is not possible to wind back, and that is why if you play the same replay with different stats you will get two entirelly different battles.
Of course I am not from CA those guys might be working on a new replay system but dont expect improvements with the current one.

Well.. the point is that the current replay system should be improved. IMHO that means creating a new replay system.

No - there are much more important things to spend developers' time on
YES
the devs have plenty of time on their hands just ask Philip Glass, who is regualrly seen with GilJaySmith in the CA cafeteria.
No serious Please do it guys, make your game the best ever Nothing short of Total Victory will do.

The replay feature is adequate.
The only thing I miss in replay is the rewind button.
We have the
"play"
"fastforward"
"pause"
and
"stop"
buttons allready.
But it is not sooo much important and doesn´t annoy me much if I can´t wind back the battle, it´s just pity.
But then it should be possible to play one of the involved armies while the other armies follow the replay-stats.Originally Posted by [b

watcha talkin abt homes?
in FIFA 2002 &2003 u can watch the replay from different angles as well as have all the vcr options in it.
I dun see why the dawgs ar CA cant incorporate the same system here .
big ups ta all of ya

I would NOT like to see this feature, as giljay said every new feature means one will be left out or an old one not implimented.

Recording what 20-odd players in a sports game were doing for the last five seconds is not as big a deal as recording what twenty thousand soldiers were doing... the game would chug and it would eat either memory or disk space. So there's no action replay, and no rewind either...
If you replayed a battle but could change the orders you gave to your army while the AI players kept following the replay, they'd have no chance; their orders would stop making sense pretty soon. You could turn this into a mid-battle save, where you let the battle unfold according to the replay until you want to take over, but since there's no way to fight the battle except by actually fighting it, it would take almost the same time to reach a given point in the replay as it took to get there when you were originally fighting it. So that's why we didn't provide that feature...

Giljay as suggested one year ago

Why you would want to watch a replay is beyond me when there's plenty more unfought battles to be done
a replay feature like sid meiers gettysburg is enuf.....
i am willingly to sent a copy to CA so they can look at it, pictures can be found on the internet as well

Magyar Khan is right .,,
Since the controls in the gaem have been attributed by units adn not by individual soldiers. The same system can be achieved in the replays.
The graphic clarity tht is evident in FIFA games is not there in MTW therefore in the end recording the action of 32(or 64 adn so on) shud not be so hard versus the 22 units.
Plus u already do record it ...allwe are asking for is to be able to rewind and forward to certain parts fo the replay.
This certainly cannot be a "tremendous demand on the system"

devs... dont try to be smarter than the King of the all Sid. Just copy his idea and we dont care as long as it shows the real battle.

Once more, with feeling...
There is too much data to save at the desired game rate of 14 frames a second. Just storing each soldier's position, would require four bytes per soldier per frame. For a 10,000-man battle that's 40K, saved fourteen times a second, totalling half a megabyte. There isn't time to write out half a megabyte of data to disk every second and still play the game, and at nearly 128Mb a minute there almost certainly isn't enough RAM to store it. And that's if we just saved the soldier positions. The soldier object in Medieval, recording everything about him, is more on the order of a hundred bytes.
Failure to completely reproduce the soldier and unit state - absolutely correct, every single frame of the game - leads to replays not being correct. Which you saw happening, for several different reasons, before the patch.
And again: sports games have fewer characters, so the data involved is massively smaller. It's not like CA doesn't know how sports games work, having produced a fair few itself. The last five seconds or so of what 40 players were up to is something you could consider storing in memory. The argument that there is less graphical detail in a TW title, and so saving the game state can't be a big demand on the system, shouldn't sound even slightly convincing.
Sorry if that sounds a bit abrupt, but this thread's getting repetitive. It's your prerogative as customers not to care about technical difficulties: you should demand everything you want, the technology is our job. If there is a way to provide a rewind control for the battle (fastforward being no problem, just not guaranteed to be very fast) then I expect we'll find it because we spend a lot of time trying to figure out how we can do wildly impressive things. But if there isn't a way to do it, which is how I'm seeing it at the moment because we have already spent a long time thinking about it, then it won't be there, and I don't care which other games have it - they aren't Total War.
