    ok here we go,
    You can have multiple strategic campaigns,
    we're not just limited to the early/middle and late,

    name the file anything.txt
    and it will show in the list,

    now custom descriptions (background description) DON'T WORK PROPERLY but they still work,
    what happens is when you select a custom campaign from the list, the program won't display the custom dscription file first try,
    BUT
    simply click any of the 3 normal campaigns, then click back onto your custom campaign and your custom description will show

    GilJay, Target, EatColdSteel ?
    (* is this broken? *)

    How do you make custom Description??
    - well we have never been told, BUT TosaInu figured it out for warlords, and little has changed,

    the file early/late/middle text files are here
    ..\Medieval\campmap\startpos\

    make a copy and edit away,

    For the Campaign Name

    //========================================
    //campaign name: can either be text or a
    //label. Set predefined accordingly
    //========================================
    FROM> cn_predefined::true
    FROM> cn_title::"Early Period Title"
    FROM> cn_short_title::"Early Period Short Title"
    TO > cn_predefined::false
    TO > cn_title::"Novgorod"
    TO > cn_short_title::"Novgorod"

    (* I have yet to see the "short" title displayed, but change it just in case *)

    For the Description

    //========================================
    //campaign description: can either be text
    //or a label. set predefined accordingly
    //========================================
    FROM> cd_predefined::true
    FROM> cd_line::"Era_Description_EARLY"
    FROM> cd_predefined::true
    TO > cd_predefined::false
    TO > cd_line::"place your text here"
    Stays> cd_predefined::true

    Each cd_line:: is a paragraph,
    as many cd_line:: as you want

    So Far I haven't worked out how to make custom Faction descriptions,
    Target, EatColdSteel, Giljay?

    (* can this be done without having to be invasive somewhere else in the file system? I'd rather be able to list it here in the campaign file or call an alternate .dsc file as we could in warlords... *)
    (see baroccas_campaigns - july 2001 - shoggy, full campaigns, section from the org for examples of non invasive custom clan descriptions)

    I'm going to upload the couple I have made later tonight,
    anyone else who has one and would like to use this info to tidy it up little please get 'em up asap
    and i'll make sure they make tonights update (8 hours from now)

    i forgot to test the multi line theory

    no more editing your early.txt, and making multiple backup copies and having to keep track of them all - simply rename and the game finds it for you

    not sure i follow you on this one, bar. what is the end result of this? i guess i dont understand "You can have multiple strategic campaigns,
    we're not just limited to the early/middle and late". you talking about extending the length of a campaign in years or what here? are you adding in extra time periods to extend the game and could put them before and after the current, more or less, fixed time periods?

    We can have more than the THREE campaigns that appear in the campaign selection list
    i currently have seven,

    We can also have more than the twelve faction normally available,
    the maximum i have selectable at the moment is 15 factiosn,
    although the developers did not expect us to go down this path and factions 13 onwards intrude onto the portrait,
    and behind it - you can select them, just can't read the name

    Giljay and company - can you please enable a scroll bar here

    so we can play any of the factions, just by changing who is minor and who is not

    i have not tried to play as Papist yet - i'll try that right now, although i expect a big error!
    and i doubt if i will e able toactually make the papal decrees - like excommunication etc.

    (* Aplogies to any devout Catholics *)

    well that was an unmitigated disaster
    i edited a 16AD variant and forgot about heirs...
    - who knew the pope had no kids...

    - gotta fix that right away

    - but they're not the pope's kids 'per se' they're the 'next in line' for the papacy,

    ========

    OK, the Papal faction is unplayable - well not really, but is going to be damn hard, the pope's age must be fixed, cause he dies each year, and a new one is automatically generated,
    seems to produce no generals at all - so that explains why in 16AD scenarios the Papal states get wiped out early, and the pope is in exile for the rest of the game.

    So I think, uless the dev's change the pope for the patch, that I'll leave the pope out of any creations I make, and let the AI deal with it...
