Are the English the only one who can train Longbowmen or can other factions get them in Wales, like Highland Clansmen and Gallowglasses?

I think for the Europeans, as long as you get to a level 3 castle and are able build a bowyer's guild, (also a level 3 bowyer) you can then train longbowmen.

The only advantage to Wales is that they get a higher honor level if they are produced there.

    Cheers

Haven't tried, but I doubt it.

I can't train Vikings in Norway (bonus there) as the English.

Well, I am only on my second campaign, and I am trying the English from the middle period after playing them from the Early period.

I do know that as the English, I can train longbowmen in any province that I can build the two buildings mentioned.

I assumed that even though longbowmen are associated with the English, that they were still just a higher level generic archer for any European faction in MTW, sort of like the Swiss pikemen.

Has anyone playing another faction been able to train longbowmen? This doesn't count buying them as mercs.

If you look at the tech tree/unit list sheet that you get with the game, you can tell whether the faction can build or not (not 100% accurate).

In the unit list, if a certain unit has a faction shield on it, that means the unit can only be built by that faction. Also, the outline color will tell you which religion can build the unit such as Red = Catholic, Grey = common (all),...

I believe that Longbow is exclusive for English, Viking is for the Danish, .... Those unit may be available as mercs if the unit definition says so.

Actually, Doan, as the Germans I was able to create Vikings in Denmark... I believe it's just a point of having the appropriate buildings on the province

all you need for vikings is a fort.

You are correct about the longbowmen. I had not noticed this on the tech tree. I don't refer to it that much because the the damn thing is so small and finely printed that I have to get out a magnifying glass to read it anyway.

As the Danes (first game - had to pick my home) I can now build vikings everywhere from Brandenburg to Muscowy. The only problem is i don't want to. The only vikings I have left are my early great leaders and even these are reduced to honour guard status.

Btw. as some danes have said before - we want crusasdes! As someone said on this forum it might have been nothing more than a glorified raid but dammit - it felt like a crusade and we had a bishop (Absalon) leading the way. We even took down a statue of a pagan god! (Svantevit)...
Nope - no sig what so ever.

yeah, vikings aren't very useful aside from early rush units, and maybe last-resort flankers.

and the same goes for gallowglasses. by the time you can get them and produce them in a decent amount, they're outdated by feudal men-at-arms.

Viking is listed as common class. I think that any faction can build Viking if own the Scandanavia provinces.

The Danish can build Viking any where they have a Fort. If play as Danish, a horde of Vikings can help you expand quicky.

    Edit:

As I look at the crusaders_unit_prod11 file, I notice that Viking has no province specification and two factions that can build Viking are Danish and Novgorod.

Yes, it's actually the strenght of Vikings; being able to build them with just a fort....

Yeah vikings are a good asset in the early campaign, when we primarily fight peasants (and other vikings).

I use woodmen as cheap filler in the high period in stead of vikings since they're cheaper (hence _cheap_ filler).

Will it be possible to remove outdated unit designs from the produktion list?

Strange the Russians can train them when the techtree says it is only the Danes.

I'm beginning to feel all the good stuff is being bleeded away from the Danes. Let them have the Vikings for them selves. I don't care, even if somebody conquers Scandinavia, NO VIKNGS!
At least I can't train any in Norway (have a Fort).

    Btw we want Danish Crusades!
At least one of them was more than a raid, we got Livonia (which is included in the Danish kingdom in the Late period, odd)...
