I have never had this problem. As long as you are using the Cd key from Vi, not MTW and make sure all of the letters are in caps and all 0's are zero's.

I am sure you have already tried those ways, sorry I can;t help more.

After entering the CD key..hit enter....

the box will change to Click here to change your CD key

Click the Continue button...and online you go.

You only have to do this ONE time....as long as you don't reload the game. Just click continue when the logon info screen comes up after the intial setup.

Why do we need CD Keys anyway?

It would be better for MP if no cd keys were required

Neverwinter nighst doesnt use cd keys at all

I have tried all the ideas above and many more....

    still does not work.

I've heard same issues happened with original MTW... wonder why the developers haven't solved a crucial problem as this one.

I've paid for my game, now I want it to work properly.

Did you enter the letters as CAPS?

    Include the - dashes?

make sure an O (letter) is not a 0 (zero)

yes, you can't use O (letter) neither many other letters in the field where you must enter de key (to reduce issues like this one)

    Official Response from Activision

    Discussion Thread
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Response (Jason Oertell) - 05/19/2003 04:02 PM
    Hi,

We tested the key here, and it game up the same, 'Invalid CD Key'. Please make
sure that you are reading the key properly, and that this is the Vikings key and
not the Medieval Total War key. If you have entered in the key properly, you
will need to take the game back to the retailer for an exchange.

yeah, surely I've read it in the wrong way the 217 times I've tried...

what a poor quality of checking products

I'd not complain. At least you didn't get a canned response. And you got the option to exchange the game. That is more than most people seem to get. As for getting the CD key right, you'd be surprised how often the simplest things are screwed up by users.

    WHAT????????

you mean I should be glad because I got a personal reponse from Activision? I don't know what world you live in, but I think ALL customers have the right of having that kind of treatment, it's not a gift, it's a right we have.
The same goes for having the option of exchanging the product... sheesh... another right that I must assume as a benefit??? What kind of relationship must I understand there is normal between the dealer and the customer if these are good things?

I WOULD complain, and I do, because I HAVE SPENT MANY HOURS OF MY FREE TIME trying to solve a problem I haven't caused. I paid the money asked, now I ask the quality expected. I am the customer, don't forget that.

And now I have to waste more time going back to the store (a good bunch of kms. away), and ask them to exchange. Let's hope they don't make trouble with it.

But I should not complain, because most of customers don't get this response. Weird this conformity.

Of course you should expect such things, but the reality is quite different. In my experience hearing of other's problems, you got very good treatment. I know others who were not so lucky with CD key issues - sorry, can't help you with your CD key problem...and we don't issue new CD keys and no receipt for exchange. I chose to look at the positive in the situation.

BTW, I'd call the store first before you waste your time making the trip.
