    I had a battle a few mins. ago in which I was fighting an army of about 700 with one of about 400. They were almost all SA and one of my H3 YC got 370 kills and only lost 7. They didn't gain ANY honour! WHY NOT?????

    thats about 6 kills per man, perhaps the most kills were had by the men who died?

    the very next battle with that unit should see an honour increase, all the remaining men are probably on the border of an honour boost.

    The answer is simple - your cav was already Honor 3 - meaning they needed a HIGH number of kills to make it to Honor 4. Each honor level gained is harder than the last. I would say that you will likely get a bonus if they get some decent kills next battle. Look at the battle log and see who got how many kills and the individual honor of each man

    You very well may have a few honor 5 or 6 men in there - hogging all the kills! Remember - unit honor is averaged using the honor of each individual man. Thats on of the things that makes shogun so unique - its ability to track such stats when you have nearly 2000 men on the field to keep track of.

    Were most of their kills from chasing routing enemy? I have had similar occurrances
    racking up big kill totals with Cav chasing down routing enemy and not receiving any honor for that unit.I have also had units receive honor for losing more warriors than they killed,the difference was that they were attacking against overwhelming odds,not routing enemy.I think how the kills were made has some bearing on the accumulation of honor.

    Surprisingly it wasn't mostly routing enemy, I hit them on two sides and the front and that unit happenened to get most of the kills.

    What's the battle log?

    Zone,

    Under options you can have a battle log created for every battle you fight. This is basically a file that lists each unit - each man - and gives each fighters battle stats - how many kills - if he is alive - his honor - his attack/defense #'s, any friendly kills he may have made, etc.

    Its nice to view at times to see who is getting the kills..

    Ah yes, I also found it among the files in the program folder. Here's an amusing example to show (slightly edited):

    Player Name:: Mori
    ------------------
    Player Type:: CPU
    Clan:: MORI
    Stance:: Defender
    Number of Units:: 4
    Total Troop Count:: 200
    Total Men Killed:: 0
    Total Men Lost:: 194

    General's Rank:: 0

    Player Name:: Oda
    -----------------
    Player Type:: HUMAN
    Clan:: ODA
    Stance:: Attacker
    Number of Units:: 1
    Total Men Killed:: 145
    Total Men Lost:: 0

    General's Rank:: 0

    Kensi
    Kills This Battle: 145
    Losses This Battle: 0
    Soldier Honour = 5
    Armour =3
    Weapon =3
    Kills =145
    Friendly Kills =0
    How Soldier Left Battle = Victorious

    ==============
    END OF LOGFILE

    I've had low numbers of troops in a unit, perhaps 15-25 of 120 be the first to engage the enemy...the kills won't be substantial and there will be enough left to fight again...but they do get an honor bonus...what the started with and what the ended up with escape me though...

    The largest leap of honour I've had was a Kensi with 27 kills who lept up by H6. This was probably due to the fact that he killed and enemy H6 Dyaimo though.

    Here is the thing - say in a 60 man unit u lose 10 men, and gain 80 kills. Lets say of the 50 men remaining - 4 move up one honor point - 35 are within a couple of kills of getting the honor boost - they are not averages as being near the next honor point - they are averaged straight across - so if you have 6 honor 0 men, 9 honor 2 men and 35 honor 1 men - the unit honor will still be 1 - even though overall if u added the total kills up it would average to be honor 2. Its simply the way they decided to average things - each man's honor vs total unit honor. This can be a pain in some cases - like now - but is a godsend when you move a couple of men from one unit to a depleted one and see the losing unit gain honor.

    And if you have enough depleted units and a bit of luck you can reform those reduced units with high honour into larger high honour units... I don't know how random it is or if the computer just selects from the top of the unit list and works down... if its random you could spend quite a bit of time min/maxing unit honour.

    I highly doubt whether or not this could be of any REAL use though.

    How an individual soldier performs depends on his INDIVIDUAL honor, instead of the overall honor of the unit he belongs.

    When you shuffle your men around between units, they will carry their own INDIVIDUAL honor over. So even though the apparent unit honor might vary, nothing is really changed here.

    -------------------------
    One sensible way of merging though, is that you want to merge your soldiers with the highest honor into the unit with the best equipment. In this case, there IS a diffrence.
