I believe the majority of the community have noticed the difference of archers' effectiveness in castle assault between orginal STW and WE. With limited ammo (even time limits), now it becomes very possible to eliminate the entire castle defense by archers only.
But the enemy archers are always a big problem.
In my own experience, the daimyo and his bodyguard are excellent arrow absorbers. After the enemy archers depleted their arrows, our own archers, BN, or gunmen can march to their optimal shooting positions. It seems that the daimyo is safest to stand just on the slope leading to the castle wall. The enemy archers have difficulty shooting straight through the walls.
Here are two screen shots demostrating the "effectiveness" of the daimyo in this particular job:
1. In light rain, the enemy fire could not damage the daimyo but killed some of their own guys standing in front of the archers.
2. While the daimyo walks to the back of the castle, the enemy had extreme difficulty shooting backwards - ending killing 97 of themselves!
