    Hi all,
    In the context of an experiment and learning process I have inserted a small Hellenic colony in the Viking map. They use the Byzantine Lancers as Cavalry unit, and two new units, the Ificratian Hoplite and Thureophori unit. They also had access to the Celtic warriors and Pictish Cavalry units to simulate local cooperating tribes.

    For those that don’t know these units here is a brief description and there MTW properties.
    1.Ificratian Hoplite – These are normal hoplites with a lighter armor and a smaller shield than the old hoplites. They carry a 4.5m pike instead of the 3.5m spear used. Hoplites are shock troops with ultra-dense formations. They move to the enemy at increasing speed and crush on them. Most enemies find this a good time to flee. If they stay the hoplites support each other by covering each other. These are citizen troops, well trained and motivated.
    For MTW – Good, Shock, Half-plate armor, Heavy-large shield, pike, disciplined, formed.
    2. Thureophori – These are an upgrade of the Peltast. They are a bit more well trained and equipped. They appeared after the passing of the Gauls from Northern Greece. The Thracians quickly adopted the Celtic elliptical shield “Thureos” and the long sword “Romphea” (that looks a bit similar with Nagitana on a short pole). They also got a bit heavier armor.
    For MTW – Normal, Loose_meel, Light_mail armor, Large shield, sword, javelin disciplined, formed.

    Ships.
    Not implemented. Though a later type bireme and a cargo ship like Dromon would be OK

    In it conditions
    The Hellines were given the Island of Man but with out any ships they got a really slow start so ended fighting large armies and Viking shipping The single and built as any capital starting point deprived the Hellines from cash also.

    The setup will change and Hellines will get a medium fleet of dromons and a small of biremes. Also the island will get a number of triad goods.
    ==========================================================
    Results.
    ~~~~~~~~
    The Hellines proved to be quite a challenge to handle. The limited area caused a lot of financial problems To top the Vikings made it difficult to built and maintain a fleet (even a small one).
    On the battlefield the Phalanxes were able to take even the most hardened Celtic or Germanic (Saxon) units. Usually a good charge of the phalanx left the units devastated and the lesser usually fled. The problem was that the lighter units managed to disengage with not many casualties and regrouped so you have to have a good notion on where your Phalanxes are at all times. The Thureophori were excellent to were down the heaviest of the enemies before they charge covering the Phalanx flanks. The heavy axe units of the Saxons and Vikings proved to be a threatening factor. Even lesser units like the Galloglasses proved to de very dangerous if my flanks were open or caught on rough terrain.
    =========================================================
    Things to do.
    Remove the disciplined from Thureophori, and use mail or heavy mail for the Hoplites. Insert a lesser hoplite with light_mail and spear.
    The incretion of a Roman Marion army in an other secluded area and see what happens from there on. They will have a Standard Legionary Cohort and Velites, while they will shear the Byzantine lancers with the Helleines.
    Hi komninos...good bit of work you've done there.
    Q: Did you intend to share this in the Entrance Hall, or shall I move this to the Dungeon for you?
    Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.
    There is no novelty work done here. The units were already tested in my Persian Wars mod. I just had to pit them against the VI Late Germanic / Celtic Armies.
    So I posted it here so anyone can coment on it. When I port the Ancient port to the VI then it will be Dungeon stuff
