I want to change the unit-icons shown in battles, I know they're stored in Battle\UnitIcons\. I've painted entirely new unit-icons for the Uruk-Hai. I used these to replace existing unit-icons; ie Crossbows, NegroSpearmen. The new icons are 256 colour 50x50 LBMs, so I thought all fine this should work, but I get a CTD when pressing the Start Battle button.

So I thought maybe it has something to do with the palette, but no, loading existing colour palettes into the new unit-icons still resulted into a CTD.

Ok, then maybe pasting the new unit-icons into existing unit-icons would work, but no, still a CTD. What is going on? I can find no fault in my process, the colours, size, extension, file name are all right. The only difference I can find is that the new LBMs are 4kb and the existings ones are 3kb max.

So can anyone help me? Preferable someone who has already changed unit-icons with success.

    Thanks, Duke John

    Cool

Had a similar problem with portraits and was told instead of pasting over them to use the Clone tool in your paint/photo program and clone your new icons over an existing one. Dont ask me why or how all I know is what I was told and it solved the problem for the portraits anyway. Good Luck

    I managed this way:

Open a BMP icon in Photoshop or Paint Shop. Select all, copy. Open LBM icon in Ultimate Paint, a program that acept the LBM extension. Paste, save. Thats it. I also convert before the icon to grayscale, to avoid problems with palettes. The BMP is 256 colors, 8 bits.
