where is Gothland? (Gotland)

I was battling around up north with my turks and when i reacht sweden i was suprised.
There is an island missing there, betwen Sweden and livonia. Its calld Gothland (Gotland)... but on the map Öland is there.
And Öland is smaller and less important then Gothland.
So... why isnt Gothland an province. I mean the Swedes, Danish, Russians have tried to controll it over the years. (haha we swedes won&#33

so... have CA explaind this?

I think they left it out because it wasnt a very importend Island (not important enough).

They did that with Mallorca to (forgot how that island group is called)

Now your thinkig: but cypress and rodos are quite small to.
But these Islands played a very big role in the crusades and that's why they didnt leave them out. Well that's waht I heard about it.

hmmm... but Denmark is in the game? and they took Gotland from the swedes i think. It was inoprtand in the trade.

i dislike the fact that Ca has ignored that Sweden was indeed a country at that time and still you must mod or install a mod to play as them .

I think the reason for Sweden not being a faction is pretty obvious, they just weren't very important at the time... the Danes however, were. Was it really even united as a country?

About Gotland, yeah, it should be in, and had the map been more detailed (more provinces), it probably would have. The strategic map sometimes gives the feeling that you're playing Risk...

What would be great though: a mod featuring a map of Scandinavia and the factions being the various families fighting for the crown of Sweden. And besides uniting Sweden another goal would be to christianize Finland, making it part of Sweden. You'd face stiff competition from the powerful Danes and Novgorod for control of Finland... it'd be kind of like the Viking campaign.

i thought of one thing, Why isnt Sweden like the Swiss? they can pop up around 1200 or something... With a huge army that is invincible, as it was irl or just some knights and pikes... that would be so sweeeeeet.
And one more thing, Sweden should be more rebellius than it is. I mean not even the swedish king could controll the peasants sometimes.
And not feeling being quiet i keep on talking.

Sweden should also be divided in to 2 provinces, Gotaland and Svealand. The Danes did controll the southern parts of Sweden a few times but never the North.

Det finns en mod 10 factions mod, där kan man vara sverige
(And in english, there is an mod where you can play as the swedish, the 10 factions mod.)

probably because it's to bloody small. And it's not realy an island.

Also I don't realy see where they would put the enlargement of it on the map, It would become very crowded.

Sweden wasen't a country until it stood written on paper, around 1250-1320, these documents still exists in the university at Uppsala. It is good that Sweden isnt a own faction in M:TW cause Sweden was full of civil wars and political problems until it really became a country at 1500's when Wasa ruled and pushed back the Danish to their own country.

But of course it would be greater if Sweden wasen't so easy to take and as someone said that it had two provinces even three provinces. (Skaneland, Gotaland, Svealand). But the game is already made and done so let's wait and hope they make Emperial: Total War after Rome: Total War, who let u play thru 1453 to 1850. Napoleon units and so on. Swedish Carolines who owned etc etc. Thats my dream game in the Total War era.

Yes Emperial sounds cool. I would love to use Carolines to kick some ass. We swedes really was an important faction after the middle ages. During the kings Karl X, Karl XI and Karl XII... but i have allways hated Karl XII.

well anyway... a total war game that takes place from around 1500 to the 1850 would be nice. from the end of the middle ages to the industrialism.

The problem is that the army sizes became huge when nationalism kicked in... so... a new battle engine is needed.

Pfff I fik Skåne og nu vil I også have en faction i MTW

Alexander Nevsky did defeat a swedish army in the battle of Neva in 1240 I think so Sweden had a role back then. But having them as a faction..well for a Baltic focused mod of course, but for MTW focusing on all europe there is really only room for one faction in that area.
