After getting a VI, the Pope´s agressions are going a way too far It´s not possible to live peacefully with that guy Or what do you think?

    For my previous games with Italians, I´d like to say that it can´t be nothing else than a bug Here´s a little story;

Pope did offer a alliance att beginning and I agreed. Couple years later, Sicilians attacked one of my ships like they usually do and alliance was quit. So, I take out the Sicilians quickly before getting excommunicated, but a pope was now neutral to me.. An so it started Soon after, Pope invaded Naples from me. I decided to stay at defencive, I didn´t want to get excommunicated but I still got it

I attacked, finished Papacy out and Pope was no more
But i retreat soon from those provinces, hope that when Pope come´s back they´r on rebellion. And Pope came, with a big army, three full stacks. I did offer alliance, didn´t succeed and get again attack And after couple years of figthing, Papacy was conquered. I retreated. Five years later, Papacy came back. And guess what happen ? Pope attacked me.. Year was 1230 when I get enough, and I had fight against Papacy al least six times.. No matter how big gaarrisons I made, how good and pious king I had, Pope just kept invading

That should be patched. And that was not the first game when that happen.. That´s not funny

Its built in that the pope always appears and the bigger the garrison you put in the more men he will bring with him.

ok when you have beaten him. destroy Rome totally then jack up the taxes and have no garrison so it rebels. Leave the rebels and eventually the pope will come back. He will beat the rebels but will have a weak army and cant rebbuild it because you flattened Rome.

    rinse and repeat as necessary

Yup, I let them rebel. There was usually only one hundred man of rebels, but Popes forces are allways huge when he return. I feel that a army size is a problem, AI factions usually attack if they have surplus of troops. Even when there is no other or better reasons.

I always leave at least 2or3 full stacks in garrissons near The Pope's old stomping Grounds. One in naples and another one or two North of the Papal States and Rome.

The Pope is the Ultimate Thorn in my side because he requires so much management to contain... still it was funny when I held Rome for a while and then I moved troops out and had no garrisson but it was filled with Spies so the place never revolted, when the Pope turned up again a Loyalist Rebellion arose Talk about funny (and yes I was Excommunicated for the Rebels actions)

you can always use assains to kill him, the new pope will forgive you and lift ur excommunication
No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards dying for their country.

The draft is white people sending black people to fight yellow people to protect the country they stole from red people.

shame the game doesn't have built into it the ability to create your own Pope as the Germans did, might be an interesting concept to have more than 1 pope.

    Or maybe not

Tell me about Mr Lingham hat. I'm playing the HRE and I was having that 'Don't fight back just because they invaded you' nonsense from him. Don't be afraid to give him the middle finger salute and slap down on those who need the bottom kicked. The worst the Pope can do is excommunicate you and if you're properly allied with / reduced to trash the other Catholic fractions then no problems (no crusades). Some times the Pope backs down from his threat and offers you an alliance or his daughter in marriage, erm.

It is also a delight how you can jump His Holiness with a hundred troops, kill or capture everyone in his unit and find he has escaped. Did that three times to Urban III. Makes one feel like a real HRE.

On the other hand it is a happy day when the Pope excommunicates one of your' neighboors

I like Switicus' make your own Pope idea

Ooh yeah, when the Pope Excommunicates someone its conquest on a plate (Just make sure you don't kill the enemy King until the very end and complete your conquest within his and the Pope's Lifespans)

Yeah it would be funny to have your own Pope, The Pope Excommunicates, and you promote a Cardinal and he Re-Communicates you
