Thread: Archer buildings (CA response appreciated)

    The various archer buildings that can be built in MTW VI medieval period campaigns say in the description that they improve the quality of archers weapons. Their bows, in other words.

    For example the Bowyer's Guild:

    "A bowyers' guild - like all guilds - protects its members from cheap competition and makes sure that they are working to a high (and well-paid) standard. Again, a bowyers' guild improves the weapon quality of archers trained here as well as, in combination with other buildings, allowing the training of some advanced troop types."

    Now I know that the Bowyer's Guild does not have an input bonus in the buildprod text. When you upgrade it to a master bowyer, it gives all archers a +1 valour bonus.

    My question is - Does the 'increase in weapon quality' descibed actually have an effect in the game? Do these buildings add to the stats found in the projectile text for the archers' weapons in a hardcoded way? Armour and weapon bonuses can be seen on unit icons and also appear in the buildprod text as bonuses that the relevant buildings confer, but the same is not true of this 'bonus', so does it exist at all?

    This may not seem like it belongs in the dungeon, but it is important to know what is going on with the buildings in order to alter their function for a mod.

    Well, i'm not from CA, but i think that "improves the quality of the archers" allowing you to create better archers. But they add +1 morale each.

    As far as I know, they don't add +1 morale each. The master bowyer adds +1 valour. That's all.

    No, it does not have any effect on the game. The description is just there for background.

    Just to be clear, I'm not asking whether the description itself has any effect. Just wondering whether it indicates a hardcoded bonus given

    I personally don't think there is any hidden bonus. I'm just looking for the final say that I'm right.

    This same topic just happened to come up over at the .com site, as it does periodically. You can search the archives, and you ought to be able to find something authoritative on this.
    IMO, the buildings don't affect archery skills. The projectile stats are different than the unit stats, and all the buildings use the same flag for their valour effect. The standard effect, btw, is +1 attack and defense, and +2 morale. Nothing in there about a projectile stats setting.
    I seem to remember people other than the guy at the org who claimed that morale affected kill rates, but I just don't see how this would be.
