How - When and Why do we receive reinforcements? I got them, totally surprized me - but where they come from? How will I know if I'm going to get them?

If you're talking about campaign battles, you must have sent more than 16 units (please correct me if i'm wrong) to the province. Only 16 units are assigned in the beginning formation and when a unit dies or retreats off the map, fresh troops will come.

The first response is correct. If you take more than 16 units into battle, when one leaves or is utterly destroyed another will march into the battlefield. It does take some time to have that unit march in, so don't expect it within 3 seconds to save yourself.

As to where - they will come from anywhere along the border at your REAR. This was changed from V1.0 where reinforcements (your's and the enemy's) would appear at a random spot on any border. Thankfully, CA fixed this issue with V1.01. Since they appear in a wide range of area, do not expect them to be in a position to turn the tide of battle immediately. Most of the time, they pop out where it will take them a bit before they are in position to assist your main battle line.

As to how - again, if you have 16 banners in your army, and one unit is destroyed (0 men), runs away or is withdrawn (for whatever reason), the unit banner will be removed once all men are dead or off the battlefield. If you started the battle with more that 16 units, a random one from the pool of units that is left will come marching in. Be aware that you can choose which 16 units you start with, as you can switch individual units out until you are happy with your initial troop set.
I trust this helps answer your question.
